Olive oil for many Westerners may be just simple cooking oil, but to the people of Greece it is much more than that. In the ancient Mediterranean civilisations, olive oil was inseparable from civilised life itself. Olive oil was not only an important food item but it was also burned in lamps to provide light, it could be used as a lubricant, and it was blended with essences to produce fragrant oils.

PEOPLE who eat a classic Mediterranean diet rich in vegetables, fruits, olive oil, cereals and fish live longer, and are healthier. But a study in Greece has shown that it is the diet as a whole, rather than any specific individual component, that confers health benefits.
Researchers from the University of Athens and the Harvard School of Public Health recorded the eating habits of 22,000 Greek people, and followed their subsequent health and mortality for an average of 3.7 years.

History Of Scotland
The history of Scotland begins around 10,000 years ago, when humans first began to inhabit Scotland after the end of the Devensian glaciation, the last ice age. Of the Stone Age, Bronze Age, and Iron Age civilization that existed in the country, many artifacts remain, but few written records were left behind.
The written history of Scotland largely begins with the arrival of the Roman Empire in Britain, when the Romans occupied what is now broadly England and Wales, administering it as a Roman province called Britannia.
