When the going gets tough, the tough have shown they become serious softies about their furry and feathered friends.
Despite the recession, this year Americans are expected to increase their spending on pets to $45.4 billion, up $2.2 billion from last year, according to the American Pet Products Association. Meanwhile, over the same period of time, retail spending on human luxuries, like those bought at department stores, are down double-digit percentages.

The Inspector General's report documents the stunning and at least partly illegal expansion of TARP from the $700 billion originally allocated by Congress to what is now a $3 trillion complex of programs.

This is really exciting news for me since I find it hard to get anything done in Winter when the light is much more blue than the beautiful Summer sun. In Vancouver it is often overcast and much too grey outside for it to be very bright indoors. I haven't seen a full spectrum bulb in fluorescent before!
