With my busy schedule between work and family, it's hard to coordinate exercising with a friend. So I end up sweating it out on my own most of the time. I do love working out with a buddy though, so at least once a week I try to plan fitness dates.

For some of us, fitness partners are the best way to keep motivated. Right now, my fitness buddy is my husband. We've been running together at night since it gets darker earlier these days.

Sometimes we need someone else to help push us along in our efforts to get healthy. A boyfriend or husband could be a good idea, but I have found that it could also be a recipe for disaster. Insert, I am going to have that cheeseburger if I want to have that cheeseburger and you're not going to judge me for it conversations -- Not the best for a harmonious relationship.

Sometimes a loving relationship can lead to packing on the pounds, but your relationship can actually help you stay on track with your healthy lifestyle, giving new meaning to the phrase "healthy relationship." Your significant other can motivate you to get off the couch and into your sports bra, and he or she can also be a great workout buddy. So tell me .

We all have our own strategies to help ensure that we workout. For some of us it is making an exercise date with a friend. Others prefer to workout alone and consider exercise time "personal time."

Biggest Loser trainer and creator of a handful of popular workout DVDs, Jillian Michaels admitted to Health that she's not the most focused fitness fiend. When asked one area of her life where she is undisciplined, she answered "The only thing I would tell you is fitness."

If I haven't taken my pooch out for her daily romp, she'll let me know, either by dumping over the garbage can in the kitchen or by giving me that hopeful look. I can't not take her out for a daily walk or run because I feel like I'm letting her down. That's part of the reason new research from the University of Missouri shows that when it comes to exercise buddies, canines are better than humans.

The holidays can be pretty indulgent — decadent meals, cocktail parties, and dessert after dessert to savor. Add to that stressful gift shopping, holidays spent away for home, and workouts being replaced with entertaining and suddenly you've gotten completely off track with your health.
Before you beat yourself up for having that second piece of pumpkin pie, take a deep breath and tell yourself it's OK.
