I don't know about you but working out in the cold can sometimes be uncomfortable because it makes my muscles extra tight. What helps me is to warm up inside before heading out into the chilly weather.
Before a run or bike ride, I do about 5-10 minutes of light cardio inside.

Fall spells cooler weather and shorter days. As the seasons change, I notice that I change up my fitness routine quite a bit too. I stay indoors more and will opt for the rowing machine over an early morning bike ride.

If you crave carbs during the short days of Winter, you are not alone. There seem to be a couple of physiological factors involved. Since there is less sunlight, due to shorter days, our bodies make less vitamin D (aka the sunshine vitamin).

Have you noticed chilly weather seems to turn many of us into something like a bear seeking fat before hibernating all Winter? I know the connection between cold weather and fatty foods isn't true for everyone, but many of you voted on this poll that you do indeed crave the fat when the temperature is low.
According to sports nutritionist Ryan Kohler temperatures below freezing can increase a person’s basic energy needs when compared to the amount of energy it takes to simply "exist" at room temperature, which is between 60 and 70 degrees F.

As Winter drags on, I am having escapist fantasies. I am dreaming of a vacation that takes me out of my daily routine. Some days I think I'm ready for a week of scuba diving in the tropics.

When there is a Winter chill in the air, I crave fat. Milk fat mostly, like cheese and ice cream. The cravings are not limited to just dairy products, duck confit is often top of the list.

A lot of us run in one direction for 15 minutes then turn around and run back for the remaining 15 minutes. For those of us who live in windy places, this means that half of our runs are done into the wind and the other half are done with the wind at our back.
When it's especially cold outside you need to protect yourself from the elements, so start your outdoor jogs by heading into the wind on the first leg.

Ice surfing, also called Ice Sailing or Snofering, is a lot like windsurfing, but you ride ice instead of waves. It's a hybrid sport mixing the speed of snowboarding with the agility and power of wind surfing.
The board is similar to a skateboard, with ice blades in place of wheels.
