Actually, denying yourself the bites you crave can backfire, causing you to feel deprived, resulting in bingeing. You can&#039;t eat these foods all the time, but it&#039;s perfectly healthy to enjoy a few spoonfuls of ice cream or a small glass of chardonnay every once in a while. Just limit your portion sizes and only indulge about once a week. &lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;&lt;b&gt;Salad, Every Day&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
Salads aren&#039;t for everyone, and the dissatisfied feeling you get afterward could cause you to head to the nearest pizza joint. Plus salad toppings can really add up. When a bowl of greens is covered in candied walnuts, cheese, dried cranberries, avocado, and creamy dressing, a seemingly healthy salad can run higher in calories than a burger. If you&#039;re not into a bowl of raw veggies, choose other low-calorie meals that incorporate veggies such as sandwiches, broth-based soups, grilled veggies, and whole-grain salads. &lt;b&gt;RR&lt;/b&gt;: It&#039;s hard for younger people to understand how bad things were in America, a time when all food was essentially industrial. There were no farmers markets. We have these two completely parallel, simultaneous, and opposite tracks: on the one hand, people with money who eat organic, sustainable, handmade food. But if you&#039;re a poor person, you&#039;re stuck eating stuff that&#039;s cheaper than food and that will kill you. Food safety in this country becomes a worse and worse issue; we import more and more food; 80 percent of the antibiotics in this country go to perfectly healthy animals. We have a real crisis on the one hand - and on the other hand, we have, for the first time, an awareness of it. Which is quite stunning. &lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;I really do think American food is the best in the world right now, because of the people making the kind of food that goes to the Good Food Awards. We have to nurture it, and make sure that it doesn&#039;t just stay with us in this little enclave. &lt;/p&gt;

Resistance training often hogs the metab-boosting spotlight. It&#039;s no wonder, since a pound of muscle at rest fries three times as many calories as a pound of fat. However, cardio is every bit as crucial for keeping your metabolism humming.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;New research explains why: In a study published in &lt;b&gt;Medicine &amp;amp; Science in Sports &amp;amp;  Exercise&lt;/b&gt;, people pedaled a stationary bike as hard as they could for 47 minutes.&lt;br /&gt;
The finding: They slashed 190 calories above their resting metabolic rate for 14 hours after their workout. Add that to the 519 calories, on average, the cyclists scorched from the workout itself, and that&#039;s one heck of a sweat session.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;&quot;If you do just two to three vigorous bouts of exercise per week for 45 minutes, you could lose a pound of fat every two weeks from the combination of calories expended during exercise plus what you burn afterward,&quot; says study author David Nieman, PhD, a professor of exercise science at Appalachian State University.&lt;/p&gt;
