I Don't Buy It: Weight Loss Sunglasses

Having a little problem with self-control these days? Fad diets failing you? Have you tried Weight Loss Sunglasses ($18.75)? They're blue-tinted glasses that make your food look dull and boring, so you won't want to eat it.

The website selling these specs says that according to "research" (not sure if anyone scientific was in charge of this study, but OK), blue is the least appetizing color on the spectrum. So the theory here is that if your food looks unappetizingly blue, then you won't want to eat it. If you don't eat, you'll lose weight? Hmm. So my question then is, what's stopping the person from removing those sunglasses, seeing their tasty and now un-blue food, and then devouring every last bite?

Seems like an excuse to wear sunglasses inside to me. Are you buying it? Tell me what you think in the comments section below.

Sarah Michelle Gellar Takes Matching Charlotte Out to Shop

The mother-daughter duo ran errands together and swung by a few shops, looking too cute in their matching sunglasses! It was a family afternoon for Sarah during a break from work on her show Ringer. To promote the program, Sarah posed on the December 2011 cover of Self. She spoke with a writer from the magazine about her weight-loss philosophy. Sarah Michelle Gellar doesn't own a scale, she said. SMG commented, "You can't live your life by the scale. We don't even have one in our house. I've never believed in them, because your weight fluctuates. It's more about how my clothing fits than a number. Besides, if you deny yourself everything because you're so focused on the mirror or the scale, then when do you get to enjoy life?"

Bigger Utensils Lead to Better Weight Loss, Study Says

It makes complete sense that using smaller plates helps you consume less calories, but a recent study suggests that the size of your cutlery can also aid weight loss. The study published by the Journal of Consumer Research says using a plus-sized fork encourages you to eat less. I'm laughing at the mental image of someone diving into their tiny plate of food with a humongous fork. Sounds like a clown skit you'd see at a kid's birthday party.

All joking aside, here's how the study went down. Patrons out for a dinner at an Italian restaurant were randomly selected to twirl up their spaghetti and meatballs with a fork that was either 20 percent larger or 20 percent smaller than the restaurant's regular fork. Food plates were weighed before the first bite and after the last, and - get this - researchers discovered that the diners who used big forks ate significantly less. Apparently, using a minisized fork isn't very satisfying, and you feel like you need to keep going back for more since the bites of food are so tiny. On the contrary, when using a huge fork, visually you see more food going into your mouth with each bite, so your body feels more satiated.

I just don't know about this. It reminds me of the Weight Loss Sunglasses that make your food look bluish and unappetizing. Just as I'd feel silly wearing shades while eating, I'd be too embarrassed whipping out a jumbo fork from my over-sized purse. What about you?
