Natalie Coughlin's Pre-Wedding Run

She may have made her athletic mark in the pool, but Olympic medalist Natalie Coughlin also loves to run. She began running in college as part of her aerobic conditioning regimen. Once she graduated from UC Berkeley, she continued to run to help calm her energetic pooch - a border terrier. But running doesn't just calm her dog; it works for her, too.

When Runner's World asked Natalie if she was going to run on her upcoming wedding day, she replied:

"Yes. I've spent a lot of time planning my run the morning of my wedding. I know I'll need to work off my nerves. The problem is finding a route that won't let my fiancé see me."

Nice to see that this athlete included planning for exercise along with all the other wedding planning. Working out is a great way to calm pre-wedding nerves. If you can't get out to do cardio, carve out 20 minutes to do some calming yoga moves before getting ready.

Get Wedding Dress Ready: Pre-Wedding Workouts

If you're looking to get fit for your big day then you might want to enlist some help. There are a lot of ways to do your pre-wedding training with programs designed with brides in mind. Just keep in mind, it's best to start any fitness training at least 4-6 weeks before the big day. So here are a few of my ideas:

The Wedding Boot Camp DVD ($109). This package of three workout DVDs, a Spri Exertube, a Spri Lex Loop, 12 months access to UNICUS Online, and the Wedding Boot Camp Nutritional Manual. Each DVD contains a different workout that should be done a different day of the week.

If you've already spent more than you'd like on your wedding and are looking for something free then check out current fitness magazines. I personally like Shape magazine's Total Body Wedding Workout that can be found online and printed out.

I've got a few more ideas so read more.

Call your gym or a local gym. Most are offering bridal workout programs and specials this time of year. Keep in mind that just because it doesn't say "bridal," or "wedding," doesn't mean it won't whip you into shape. A lot of full body programs and boot camps would do the trick, inquire at your gym or just look for regular boot camp programs near you. Just be sure to sign up with enough time to complete the program.

The Wedding Podcast Network has some Wedding Workout specific podcasts that give great tips from good personal trainers on getting wedding dress ready. Download them and listen to them on your way to the gym or before you start a workout to get motivated.

You can also use my own boot camp video. It's free. It's fun. And it's brought to you be me!

DVD Review: The Wedding Workout

If you're going to be walking down the aisle you're probably in serious planning mode. One DVD that will fit right into your frame of mind is The Wedding Workout from Women's Health. Not only does it provide a great workout, but it's one DVD that lets you plan exactly how you want to do your workouts and when.

The DVD is divided into several sections by body parts: upper body, abs and core, lower body, and cardio. You can do the workout in a prebuilt schedule, which separates parts of the body each day of the week with one rest day, or you can create your own workout. You can also decide how heavily you want to focus on the upper or lower body (i.e. strapless dress versus hip-hugging dress). I just tried the prebuilt schedule and feel like I got a good workout. I didn't realize until I finished working out that all the exercise routines are the same, and you simply repeat the same moves on different days. This means if you're doing lower body on Monday and Wednesday those workouts will be exactly the same and this might increase the boredom factor of working out with a DVD. Furthermore, all warmups and cooldowns are the same each day of the week, making this part my least favorite aspect of the DVD. But if you can mentally get over the repetition, you will get a good physical workout.

You do need a pair of light dumbbells for the upper body, core, and abs portion and an exercise mat would make the whole thing a little more comfortable. The lower-body portion is heavy in squats and lunges - my legs were literally shaking - so if you have bad knees you should be careful or opt out. And as with all DVDs, I feel like the cardio is not sufficient enough so I would supplement with jogs outside and sessions on the elliptical.

Fit's Tip: The bonus segments that teach how to walk in heels, nutrition, and stripping 101 were unnecessary - I'd skip them altogether.

Be sure to check out all our exclusive wedding coverage on IDoSugar.com!

Wedding Day Workout Tips

If you're a bride- or bridesmaid-to-be, chances are you've kicked up your diet and exercise routine a notch so you can look and feel picture-perfect for the big day. So when the special day arrives, there's no reason to say goodbye to your sports bra and sneakers. It'll feel good to move your body a little before slipping on your dress, so here are some tips to keep in mind when working out on the day of the wedding.

Definitely exercise, even if you only have a short amount of time. It'll help reduce prewedding jitters and give you energy to dance well into the night.

Eat before you exercise, preferably something that's high in protein but not high in fiber as it may add to the intestinal uneasiness you'll most likely be experiencing.

For the other tips read more.

Now is not the day to try anything new and challenging like mountain biking or water skiing. You don't want to risk injuring yourself before walking down the aisle.

Don't push yourself too hard physically. Do something of moderate difficulty that you enjoy, like going for a jog on the beach or a bike ride around town. The purpose of this workout should be to get your heart pumping, but it should also calm your mind.

Include your bridesmaids and family in your prewedding workout. Many yoga instructors or other fitness experts will travel, so you can hire them to lead a group class. That way everyone will benefit from a little exercise, and you'll still be spending time together.

If you're at a place that has its own gym, definitely take advantage. If your husband-to-be wants to hit the gym too but you don't want to see each other until the big moment, have someone tell him what time you're planning on going.

Source

Workout on Your Honeymoon, Seriously

Welcome to our last installment of Wedding Season on the Sugar Network! This week we are celebrating the final phase of the wedding celebration - the honeymoon. Now, I know a lot of you are reading the title laughing, but I am being totally serious here.

The thing is that you (and your new hubby) have been working hard to get those toned bodies for the wedding -- You may have even found that you actually enjoy [gasp] working out and how good you feel from it. Since the honeymoon is supposed to be a time where you feel your best, happy and relaxed, think about squeezing in a few workouts. So, if you're actually considering leaving your hotel room while on your honeymoon, here are few tips on how to fit a workout in:

I am not saying wake up at 5:00 am every morning, but if you ever have any down time then hit the gym at the hotel. Most resorts these days have amazing fitness centers that are worth 30 minutes of your time. A good resource to use while looking for a hotel with a good fitness center is AthleticMindedTraveler, because the folks over there have scoured hotels gyms nationwide.

Some hotels will even offer group fitness activities like water aerobics, sunrise hikes and even standard fitness classes like spinning.

If you're near the beach, how about a sunset jog or stroll on the beach with your man? Not only is it romantic, but running and walking on sand are great ways to work your leg muscles.

Speaking of the beach, snorkeling and scuba diving are fabulous ways to be active and see some amazing things under the sea.

Not into swimming with the fish, kayaking and canoeing are great ways to spend some time together as newlyweds while seeing the water from above.

For those of you that love to run, think about doing something totally different such as sight jogging - a jogging tour. Depending on where you're going, ask your concierge about availability.

While we're on the subject of the concierge -- If sight jogging is not your style, but you would be interested in something else along those lines, ask the concierge available options. He should be able to give you many suggestions for different types of things you can do to see the area while burning a few calories along the way.

Fit's Tips: If working out just isn't on your agenda, an hour of sex could burn about 250 calories (for an 130 pound woman).

A Week In Review: FitSugar roundup

Meatless Mondays are starting at my house this coming Monday.

Now that it is Saturday, you've got to try the booty workout. Here's the printable version for you to take to the gym.

Here is a new TreadMill workout for you to try next time you're at the gym. Or if you have one at home hop on and try it.

Speak Up and tell me what you listen to when you workout.

After splurging on Burberry golf accessoriesyou might just need some FREE golf lessons.

We all know fiber is an important part of our diet. But do you know if an apple or a pear has more fiber? You might also be interested in knowing how much fiber your favorite fruit has to offer.

Since it IS the weekend you have time to practice Sun Salutation B.

Monday was the Boston Marathon and Lidiya Grigoryeva won by finishing in 2 hours and 29 minutes. Jacob might have taken a little longer to cross the finish line, but his story is quite motivational.

The Sugar pages have been filled with wedding mania this week, but walking seems to be how Eva Longoria deals with her pre-wedding stress.

Just wondering if you have tried the Side Push Up. It is a great way to work your arms.

Flynet

Get in Shape While Planning Your Wedding

Being a bride-to-be is joyful and exciting, but there's no denying that planning for the big day can be really stressful. You have so much to think about: flowers, the ceremony, invitations, your dress, the cake, and the honeymoon. Planning the wedding can be as much work as a full-time job! In order to prevent feeling overwhelmed with your enormous to-do list, you're going to have to make multitasking a part of your planning process.

So kill two birds with one stone by researching wedding info while working out. You can download wedding podcasts from iTunes and burn calories and tone up while you listen. Here are a few for you to try:

For free, download The Wedding Planning Audiocast, which is the Internet's number one wedding show heard around the world.

Also at no cost, download 70 of the most recent podcasts from Wedding Podcast Network.

To see what else you can listen to while hitting the gym, read more.

Download free episodes of Wedding Workout from the Wedding Podcast Network to help you get bridal-gown ready.

If you need more wedding exercise ideas, check out five free episodes of The Healthy Bride Podcast Workouts.

If a green wedding is important to you, check out two free episodes of Your Guide to Green and Eco-Chic Wedding.

Brides Magazine has four free podcasts that discuss the latest trends, style tips, and cost-saving strategies in planning your wedding.

If you don't mind paying a little, the audiobook called Wedding Planning ($12.95) gives insights from wedding planner Susannah Richardson, so you can have as little stress as possible when planning for your big day.

Or download season six of Whose Wedding Is It Anyway? for $17.99. It shows how wedding planners help real couples get through the hectic planning process, and have the wedding they always imagined.

If these don't float your boat, there are tons of other wedding-related podcasts from iTunes, so you're bound to find something that will help make planning your wedding a little easier.

For more wedding tips, check out all of the Sugar Network’s wedding coverage here.

This sunny Spring weather has definitely lifted my spirits, and it's a time for many people to rekindle old romances, and find new ones as well. So take a long relaxing stroll in the sunshine with someone special, and enjoy these sentimental songs about love.
