If you're too hot to run, bike, or hike outside, but you still want to enjoy the Summer weather, exercising on water is a great way to beat the heat. Kayaking is one of my favorite water sports because it's safe to do alone, or if you prefer some company, you can kayak with a group of people.
The paddling action will effectively tone your arms, back, and abs.

Kayaking is great exercise to do in the summer and early fall. Not only does it completely work your upper body, but you're near water so if you get overheated, you can always jump in. While cooling off, you can tread water, which will work your lower body.

Swimming is the best low impact exercise around. If you are looking to increase the intensity of your swimming workout, adding hand paddles is one to accomplish that.
Hand paddles come in many shapes and sizes, but most are a variation on the original plastic rectangular design with rubber tubing fasteners.

I definitely was a fan of Jackie Warner's Bravo show, Work Out. And though I didn't always agree with the drama in her personal life, Warner's workout ethic is inspiring. I was recently given a copy of the fitness DVD, Workout: One-on-One Training With Jackie ($10) and the picture of Warner on the cover was enough to make me drop and give her 20.

Recently FitSugar reader mamasitamalita wrote in to ask about her friend who works out while buzzed. Apparently it's more common than I thought, and it's not the only thing people are doing before hitting the gym. An anonymous reader commented

When strength training, there are so many exercises, and so many muscles to work, how do you know where to begin? Start from the bottom of your body and work your way up.
Since your legs are your largest muscle group, these moves require more work than exercises that target your upper body.
