Gear Review: Fila Tennis Collection

Tennis anyone? If you're a fan of volleying the ball across the court, you'll be happy to know Fila just came out with a new Fall collection of tennis gear - just in time to gear up for the US Open. The collection is called Heritage, with colors that are basic but bold, and the fit is sporty, yet feminine.

I wore the racerback tank ($50) and the skort ($45) to the court the other day for a test game. I love that the tank is high-cut and has a shelf bra sewn in, so my girls stay put as I race around the court. The tank is made with a lightweight fabric similar to swimsuit material. It feels silky and soft, and the mesh fabric on the back kept me cool and dry. The skort, made from the same material, is wonderful because the attached shorts aren't super tight. The whole outfit is really flattering and comfortable, and what's great is that it washes well too. If you're looking for a new tennis outfit and are willing to spend a little cash, it's worth checking out.

Have you heard? Tennis is trendy. Ticket sales are up for the US Open, and participation in the sport increased 18.7 percent last year. As a result, sales of tennis clothes are also on the rise. In the US, tennis apparel rung up $294.6 million in sales last year; Reebok's US tennis revenue alone is up 62 percent!

I certainly can't blame shoppers for snatching up cute clothes for one of the most fashionable sports. If you play tennis, or even if you don't, you're in luck, because there's more choice now than ever. Of course, I love an excuse to wear cute tennis dresses and skirts. Nike and Adidas are churning out especially stylish styles lately; right now I'm eying this Nike Paris Tennis Dress ($100). Summer weather inspires me to exercise outside, even though some days it's super hot and humid. I usually work out early in the morning when temps are the lowest, and if I'm done by 8:30 a.m., I usually beat the heat. Not only do I love not having to wear a lot of clothes, but there are also so many different ways to move your body, you'll never get bored.

With busy Summer schedules and the sometimes unbearable heat and humidity, 15 minutes may be all you can spare (or bear). It may feel like a short time, but some exercise is always better than none at all. Check out how many calories you'll burn in your mini-workout. All stats are based on a 130-pound woman.

Running at a pace of 6 mph (10-minute miles): 148 calories
Walking at a pace of 4 mph (15-minute miles): 59 calories
Biking at a moderate pace of 13 mph: 118 calories
