Have You Ever Played A Team Sport?

I played a variety of sports when I was growing up, both on school teams and in different leagues. Title IX passed in 1972 and required federally funded schools to provide girls and women with an equal opportunity to compete in sports.

According to studies, playing sports has an immensely positive affect on girls. The results of the studies show:

Girls who participate in sports are more likely to experience academic success and graduate from high school than those that do not play sports.
Half of all girls that participate in some kind of sports experience higher levels of self-esteem and less depression.
Teenage female athletes are less likely to use drugs than teenage female non-athletes.

Pretty inspiring - I can't wait to introduce sports to my girls. In fact I think I should go kick that pink soccer ball around with them right now.

It's Ultimate Frisbee Time

Warmer weather always makes we want to go for a nice long walk in the park. I always see college kids, running around barefoot, and tossing around a frisbee.

Some ladies are causal frisbee tossers, and others take the game much more seriously. Ultimate Frisbee has taken this carefree pastime to a whole other competitive level.

It's like a whole bunch of sports rolled into one. You play on a field similar to one used for football. It requires the athletic endurance of soccer, and the quick thinking and passing of basketball. It's played by 2 teams of 7 players.

In order to score a point, you need to catch the frisbee in the other team's end zone (kind of like football). You can run around unless you have control of the frisbee, then you need to stay put until you pass it.

If you want to play, you can always get a bunch of your buddies together for a friendly game, but you could also join a club, team, or game in your area.

How to Throw a Moneyball-Themed Oscar Party

It may not be baseball season quite yet, but you can get that feeling if you throw an Oscar viewing party and let best picture nominee Moneyball be your inspiration. The film might even make for a better theme than Midnight in Paris or The Artist, depending on your crowd. Here's how to score a home run at your Oscar gathering (and don't forget to fill out a ballot for a chance to win an iPad.)

How to decorate: Bring out baseballs, bats, gloves, and any other sports memorabilia you may have. String up streamers in green and yellow (the Oakland A's colors), and nod to the movie's financial theme by decorating with fake dollar bills. If you really want to tie in the film, get a life-size Brad Pitt cutout (which wouldn't be a bad thing to have around, anyway).
How to dress: Wear the shirt of your baseball team of choice, but to really mirror the film, rock Oakland A's gear, or at least their colors.
What to serve: Traditional ballpark fare like hot dogs, beer, cotton candy, and peanuts in the shell, of course. Bake cookies or cake pops and frost them to look like baseballs.

It's About Time: 3 Steps Closer to Back to the Future II

We've seen film magic turn into reality before - remember, the tablet was first seen on Star Trek! Now for those who daydreamed of a life as cool as Marty McFly's as a kid, your turn has come. During this week's New York Toy Fair, Mattel announced plans to produce the pink hoverboard from Back to the Future Part II.

OK, there's no actual air hovering that will occur, but it's a 1:1 replica that will glide over most surfaces and make whooshing noises. Mattel will take pre-orders from March 1-20 for the hoverboard, expected to ship in the 2012 holiday season. There's a bit of a catch: Mattel needs you to get your fellow superfans to pre-order the product to bring it to production. As they say, "Because this is such a high-cost item, there will be a minimum number of orders required to go into production. If we don't receive the minimum orders, won't go into production and customers will not be charged. The price will be announced later this month."

Nina Dobrev Joins Ashley Greene and Camila Alves For Fashion Week Fun

Nina Dobrev spent the weekend in style as she hit up several New York Fashion Week shows. The Vampire Diaries star kicked things off on Saturday at Christian Siriano before joining her friend Camila Alves at Herve Leger by Max Azria and at Monique Lhuillier. The pair made a quick change between the latter two shows, as Camila swapped her sexy Hervé top in favor of a bright-yellow dress, and Nina changed out of a simple, black look and into a bold, blue sheath. Yesterday, Nina was back on the scene as she teamed up with another star of a bloodsucking franchise, Ashley Greene, at the DKNY presentation. The actresses claimed coveted spots right along the runway and chatted up their seatmate, model Coco Rocha, during the show. Nina had to leave the fashionable festivities shortly after DKNY wrapped, however, tweeting that she had a 6 a.m. call time on The Vampire Diaries set today. Adele's Sweep, a Prayer For Whitney Houston, and More 2012 Grammys Highlights

The 2012 Grammy Awards were all about Adele's major wins and the sad passing of Whitney Houston. After a kickoff from Bruce Springsteen, host LL Cool J led a prayer for Whitney and gave a look back at some of her stellar Grammys performances. Alicia Keys and Bonnie Raitt honored another late musical star, Etta James, with a song. Bonnie and Alicia also presented best pop solo performance to Adele for "Someone Like You." Adele, who suffered from vocal problems for the last year, appropriately thanked her doctors. Further accolades went to Jay-Z and Kanye West, both absent, for best rap song with "Otis," and Dave Grohl's Foo Fighters picked up best rock performance for "Walk." Bon Iver took home best new artist.

Rihanna and Coldplay teamed up for one of the evening's most memorable duets. Her "We Found Love" segued into Coldplay's "Princess of China" and "Paradise." Another highlight was the long-awaited reunion of the Beach Boys, and they brought back their hit "Good Vibrations" with some help from Adam Levine. Taylor Swift won two honors before the proceedings even began, and later went folksy with her stint behind the mic. Katy Perry, taking a different approach, donned a skintight bodysuit for "Part of Me." Katy changed the words to the track, apparently making a dig at her ex Russell Brand.

Adele was back onstage later in the night with her adorable producer, Paul Epworth, to accept song of the year for "Someone Like You." She made her triumphant return to the microphone with her hit, after a glowing introduction from Gwyneth Paltrow, and received a standing ovation from her big fans like Paul McCartney and Rihanna. The track was also crowned record of the year and her 21 was album of the year! A teary Adele raised her new gold, joked about having a snotty nose, and said to her mother, "Mom, girl did good!"

Jennifer Hudson helped wrap things up with a touching Whitney Houston tribute, belting out "I Will Always Love You." The show was officially closed by Paul McCartney with help from his "friends" like Dave Grohl, Joe Walsh, and Bruce Springsteen. Rihanna and Coldplay Rock Out With an Amazing, Sexy Grammy Performance!

Rihanna and Coldplay totally knocked their Grammy performance out of the park when it came on about one third of the way through the big show this evening in LA. Rihanna kicked things off with a solo rendition of "We Found Love," which she accompanied with her signature super sexy dance moves. She then teamed up with Coldplay for a medley of their songs, starting with "Princess of China" which went right into their hit "Paradise." It's already been a performance-packed Grammys, but Rihanna and Chris Martin's collaboration was certainly a highlight. Rih showed off some skin with her onstage outfit, but she also turned heads with her red carpet look earlier in the evening. Rihanna wore a custom-made Armani gown, which left little to the imagination.

Gwyneth Paltrow Shows Skin in Stella McCartney at the Grammys

Gwyneth Paltrow hung out backstage at this evening's Grammy Awards in LA. She's on the long list of stars who will present an honor during the ceremony, and she'll take the stage in her cutout Stella McCartney gown. Gwyneth hit the Grammys with her husband Chris Martin. His band, Coldplay, starred in one of the evening's most anticipated performances when they teamed up with Rihanna. It's a big night for Chris and his group, since they were nominated in three categories. Gwyneth has a long history with the Grammys. Last year, Gwyneth sang "Forget You" with CeeLo Green. She presented at the 2009 show, and was actually nominated that year for an audio book she recorded based on the Bill Martin, Jr. children's books.

If the snow outside wasn't enough for NYFW attendees, Felipe Oliveira Baptista provided a few snowflakes of his own for Lacoste's Fall runway show this morning at Lincoln Center. As fake snow blew into the audience, Oliveira Baptista set the tone for his sporty chic ski-inspired line. Mixing in the old - Oliveira Baptista referenced uniforms the brand designed for France's 1966 national ski team - with the new, the designer conceived a smart mix of body-conscious pieces fitting for any après-ski occasion. One can easily head to the slopes, or to the cabin, in one of Oliveira Baptista's rugby-meets-ski minidresses and jumpsuits or sport-striped leggings paired with chic oversized parkas and coats. Leather quilted vests and jackets injected a luxurious touch to the overt sportif theme. With a play on fashionable function, Oliveira Baptista experimented with zippers, some of which opened up all the way up to the shoulders to replicate the look of a cardigan tossed over your shoulder, while others served as pockets for hoods disguised as a stylish oversized collar.
