You either love it or hate it. I am talking about the black licorice taste of fennel. Me?

After months of butternut squash and other seasonal Winter produce, I was happy to see many of my Spring favorites appearing at the grocery store and farmers markets. Eating seasonally is not only cheaper, but the produce is tastier, fresher, and more nutritious when in season. Be on the lookout for these fruits and veggies on the shelves of your market.

Aside from wonderfully sunny days, I enjoy Spring for the seasonal produce. This roasted red pepper Romesco sauce is not only tasty and easy to make, it's healthy too. Part of the Mediterranean diet, its ingredient list includes healthy fats from nuts and olive oil as well as two red super foods: bell peppers and tomatoes.

New At-Home Fertility Test Kit
Fertell, the first at-home fertility test kit, became commercially available in June 2007. The Fertell kit contains tests to screen for both male and female infertility. Men can test their semen for concentrations of motile sperm, while women can test their urine for levels of follicle-stimulating hormone (a marker for egg quality).

It's that time of year for fiddleheads, the veggie that's named because they resemble the coiled head of a violin. They're actually the tops of baby ostrich ferns, and many people go foraging for them in the woods during this time of year. Since there are many types of toxic ferns, you want to be sure you're only choosing ostrich ferns.

Spring means gorgeous weather for outdoor workouts, but it also means scrumptious fresh fruit. You can say goodbye to using frozen bags of berries and dried cranberries, and say hello to biting into juicy slices of mango, oranges, and strawberries. When you choose fruits that are in season, they'll taste much richer, and should be less expensive than when you buy them off-season.

Smoking and Skin Damage
- The skin of smokers ages more rapidly than the skin of non-smokers, even in areas of the body not exposed to sunlight, according to a 2007 study. Women in the study who smoked also had much lower levels of vitamin E secretions in their skin. Vitamin E may protect the skin from sun damage.
- There may be an association between smoking and higher frequency of a type of acne (noninflammatory acne) in adult women, according to a European study.
Antioxidants and Your Skin
- A study in the Journal of Nutrition found that a combination of antioxidants and trace elements supplementation raises the risk of skin cancer in women, but not in men.
Ultraviolet Radiation
- Overall, exposure to ultraviolet radiation from sunlight (radiation referred to as UVA or UVB) accounts for about 90% of the symptoms of premature skin aging.
- UVB primarily affects the outer skin layers.

I was so excited to find one last batch of Brussels sprouts at my produce market this week, so I whipped up this easy side to celebrate the end of Winter and the coming of Spring produce. If there are still Brussels sprouts to be had in your neck of the woods, I highly recommending trying this method for a crispy, salty, chewy, and totally veg-tastic treat.
This recipe involves peeling away as many leaves as possible and cooking them with the hearts of the sprouts, so that the leaves take on a crunchy, almost chip-like texture.

Now that Spring is on its way, I'm sure you'll be enjoying all the fresh fruits and veggies in the produce section, which means you'll be eating less wintry foods. So this weekend, take some time to go through your cupboards and pantry to check the expiration dates on cans of soup, veggies, beans, and other items. It's not healthy to eat food that is past its prime, and you can make room for new food once you ditch the old stuff.
