How to Stay Warm During Morning Runs, Minus the Sweat

So long sweltering Summer, and hello crisp, cool Fall! I find that the drop in temperature this time of year inspires me to get back on track with my morning runs. Problem is, seasonal weather changes can make it tricky to dress appropriately. For a smooth transition to Fall, here are some gear tips to keep you dressed for running success.

Dress like it's 20 degrees warmer. The actual temperature when you start your run is going to feel quite warmer once your heart rate rises, which is why it's important to factor in an extra 20 degrees. This way you'll never overdress. And you can always use this handy tool on Runner's World's site, which tells you the right running clothes to wear for the current weather conditions in your city.
Layer up. Layering is key during the Fall season. You don't want to be freezing as soon as you start your run, so wearing the proper clothes will prevent this. As soon as you start heating up, you can undo zippers, roll up sleeves, or tie your windbreaker around your waist (I like fairly fitted ones so they aren't a pain to keep tied on my hips).

When running, whether practicing or racing, you want to make sure that you're wearing moisture wicking material so that you aren't soaked in sweat with clothing that is sticking to you the entire time you're working out. Here are my top picks for race day: the Nike Dri-FIT Pacer Women's Running Tank Top is perfect for running on a hot day. I can barely tell that I'm sweating while I'm running; but best of all, it doesn't have a built-in bra! I hate sports tops with built-in bras, because they very rarely give you enough support. For shorts, I really enjoy my Run: Speed Shorts from Lululemon. You can barely feel them when you're running, and don't ride up. Also, they have three pockets so you have somewhere to put small items that you may need to carry on you while running. And for socks, my favorites are my WrightSock CoolMesh II Double-Layer Lightweight Ankle Socks, which help prevent blistering. These are a polyester/nylon blend and are also moisture wicking; they are the only socks that I can wear without having stinky feet after a run!

Reader's Review: Lululemon Run:Energy SL Shirt

Check out this reader's new favorite running shirt posted on OnSugar blog Running Nina.

Part of my go-to running outfit is my Run:Energy SL shirt from lululemon athletica.

It says "Breathe Deeply, appreciate the moment" and I love every little thing about it. Why? Because it's awesome, that's why!

Okay, for real, I love this shirt because it is so lightweight, I hardly feel like I am wearing shirt. Especially important in the hot weather. It is made with Silverescent which is an anti-static and anti-stink fabric so it won't smell stinky after I run in it a dozen times. There is a little cinch cord around the waist so you can let it hang loose if you want, or you can cinch it like I do so it doesn't flop around while you run. I've also worn this shirt during Bikram yoga and it is AMAZING for that too! I didn't get heated like I did when I wore other shirts and the cinch cord came in handy during some of the poses so my shirt stayed where I wanted it to; none of this fiddling with my shirt to get it back to where I wanted. I am also a fan of the larger arm holes and the flat seams because I feel like I have full freedom to move and no chafing! Chafing hurts!

At $58 it certainly isn't the most affordable, however, with the amount of times I have worn it and will continue to wear it I think it is a great investment. I currently have two, the one in the picture and a bright green one that says "Push Yourself, Run, Do it Now." That one I got lucky and snagged it from the loot! section of the website.

Be Positively Glowing in Stella McCartney Sportswear

If I had some serious cash to drop on workout gear, I'd buy something from Stella McCartney's new glow-in-the-dark range for Adidas. It's seriously hot! The jacket, shorts, and running shoes feature a bold glow-in-the-dark leopard print, which is a perfect example of fashion meeting function.

Stella tells Vogue UK:

"Running is one of our most popular categories and for me to make it have its own point of view is really key. I think that we did it this season in a direct way by looking at glow-in-the-dark. When you are running in an urban environment, you need to feel safe, when people can see you coming and stand out, especially in winter when it gets dark earlier. But at the same time we used it on a leopard print, so it's not so masculine and graphic."

The line is primarily made from breathable and weather-resistant polyester for the wearer's all-weather needs. Would you wear this line?
