For me, November marks the beginning of the holiday season. I love Thanksgiving, but admit I find all the celebrating of the season a little stressful. Even as the month turns darker and cooler, I have it helpful to focus on my health.

Matthew McConaughey is at it again running about town, but this time he is not bare chested and he is actually bearing extra weight.
Wearing a weighted vest like Matthew while running or walking is another way to increase your workload and by doing so you will burn more calories. Plus it is safer than carrying hand weights or strapping weights around your ankles, since the extra weight is distributed through your shoulders and torso.

When I asked yesterday if the dark mornings were making it difficult to work out before work, a few of you mentioned safety issues about running in the dark. I agree with this challenge as I try to fit my runs into days with fewer hours of light. If you can't rearrange your schedule to move your workouts to a brighter time of day, you want to make sure you can be seen by cars, bikers, and fellow pedestrians.

In the Winter, I am a big vest fan. Especially when getting active because it keeps my core warm while letting my arms breath.
It's always an added bonus if I can find a vest with a hoodie, so I am loving this Whisper Vest ($139) by Isis.

Tis' the season for layering and April is all about being green too (maybe you didn't hear that April 22nd is Earth Day).
This Patagonia Synchilla Vest ($70.00) seems to be the perfect layering workout piece this spring. The vest provides year-round core warmth without all the bulk.

This is the time of the year where I face a major dilemma during my outdoor exercise excursions, I am either too hot or too cold. The weather is not quite so cold that I need a hat and gloves, but it's chilly enough that I need a jacket. Once I get hot I have to tie it around my waist, guaranteed to have it fall at some point during my run.

Lately we've been seeing Fergie taking her runs and workouts outdoors, which is cool. I like to see a celebrity exercising outdoors. I am chuckling about her giant headphones, but what's with that crazy belt?
