The Bod Pod is the latest in measuring body composition. Instead of underwater weighing, skin fold and circumference measuring or even a scale, your doctor (or personal trainer) may ask you to step inside the Bod Pod. This futuristic contraption will measure your body composition (fat mass and lean mass) in about 5 minutes flat. &lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;There is something about this that totally reminds me of that &lt;i&gt;look into the future&lt;/i&gt; ride at Epcot circa 20 years ago and I can&#039;t stop saying the name, Bod Pod, Bod Pod... However, this is actually a great device for fitness professionals. Perhaps the ultimate food-lover&#039;s grocery store, this massive Berkeley, CA, food emporium carries a huge selection of goods from around the world, and at great prices. I consider it a must stop for friends visiting the Bay Area, so why not share my adventures? &lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;The most remarkable part of the store is probably the produce, which is clearly labeled to identify where each item comes from. The international and bulk sections offer never-ending inspiration, the meats and seafoods offer countless options and price points, and I always find myself mesmerized by fruits and vegetables from around the world that I&#039;ve never seen before.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Case in point: Indian bitter melon. I grabbed five or six of these a week ago in an effort to learn about new exotic foods. Knowing nothing at all, I selected these purely based on the fact that they seemed sort of reptilian and would be fun to photograph. As the days went on (and as the bitter melon sat in the crisper drawer of my refrigerator), I became more hesitant, not sure what I was thinking. &lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Finally, I braved up, opened my computer, and did a little research. As it turns out, Indian bitter melon, or karela, is a commonly cooked vegetable in Indian cuisine. It&#039;s described all over the Internet as an &quot;acquired taste,&quot; and apparently soaking it in salt water helps to remove some of the bitterness. I found recipes for stuffing and sautéing with various spices. The health benefits of this strange vegetable are plentiful, particularly in managing diabetes, and typically, I can convince myself to like anything if it&#039;s good for me.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;The Japanese study, published in &lt;b&gt;The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition&lt;/b&gt;, tracked 14,000 adults 65 years old or older for three years and found that those people who drank at least five cups a day of green tea were about a third less likely to have functional disabilities than those who drank little or no green tea. Even those who only drank two to four cups of green tea a day also experienced a benefit as they aged. &quot;Functional disabilities&quot; were defined as the inability to do basic daily activities or necessities, like bathing or dressing, so the more green tea you drink the more likely you are to be able to stay independent when you&#039;re older. The study did find that those who drank green tea tended to have healthier lifestyles overall, but the researchers said a positive effect still existed when diet, exercise, and other lifestyle habits were accounted for. &lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Five cups may sound like a lot, but it&#039;s actually a lot less than you think. To represent this pearl of the sea&#039;s vast variety of flavors, choose a geographically diverse assortment. Not only will you create a satisfying plate, but you&#039;ll have fun guessing each oyster&#039;s home!&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;&lt;b&gt;Span the flavor spectrum.&lt;/b&gt; Briny oysters tend to be &quot;cleaner tasting and have less of an aftertaste,&quot; Ulrich explains. The more earthy and complex the oyster, the more it lingers on your palate, an attribute that&#039;s better for the more advanced oyster eater. At your local market, keep an eye out for Ulrich&#039;s faves - Preston Points (from Tomales Bay in Northern California), Nootka Sounds (from British Columbia), and Wellfleet (from Cape Cod) - and opt for more obscure varieties that you&#039;re not apt to find at other restaurants. &lt;/li&gt;
