Mariah Looks Great, but Her Diet is "Bleak"

Dressed in a fabulous purple body-conscious gown, Mariah Carey showed off her newly defined curves at VH1's Save the Music gala. She has slimmed down for the upcoming release of her new album, and it looks like she has been working hard on her "look" as well as her "sound."

She recently discussed her dieting tactics with People. Here are a few details on her diet and exercise regimen:

Diet: Mariah describes her diet as "bleak" and I must say I appreciate her honesty. She limits her food intake mostly to soup and fish prepared "really blandly." Well, she is getting her lean protein, but I don't think a diet of boring food is something anyone can stick to in the long term.

Exercise: Loyal to her trainer Patricia, who lives in St. Barts, Mariah flies her trainer up to NYC for their workouts. Mostly they do water aerobics, which seems somehow appropriate for a trainer that lives in the Caribbean.

There is no chance that Mariah will lose her lovely curves. She told people that she has no desire to be a size zero or a stick figure. I just hope she adds some spice to her diet, because "bleak" is no way to eat.

Jessica Alba: Not Nearly As Healthy As Reported

Jessica Alba's figure has been sparking a lot of attention recently. Some people want to know exactly what she is doing to look so good and others want her to eat a hamburger. I thought it was inventive that she was supplementing her workout with a Wii, but turns out that hasn't been for some time now...

For all you who want to know what her workout plan is, well apparently it's pretty limited. People got the scoop on how Jessica ignores the media, doesn't workout but does drink a lot of water:

"I haven't really worked out in two months, but I do like to do yoga. I'm not on a diet."

"I just try to do a good job and keep people entertained with the movies that I do."

So there you have it -- Maybe she's just taking a rather long workout vacation? I am not going to speculate whether or not I feel she is being sincere in her statements, but feel free to let me know your thoughts in the comments section below.

Jessica Simpson Talks Shop, Body Shop That Is

We've all been watching as Jessica Simpson tones up using the 5 Factor and she looks great!

We're used to Jessica saying some off the wall things (chicken of the sea anyone?), People.com got the scoop on her recent interview with Harper's Bazaar where she seems to be making perfect sense:

On her butt: One thing that has changed is her body, as she prepares to join the Marines in her upcoming movie, Major Movie Star. "I've started with a trainer, Harley Pasternak," she says. "He's given me a butt, because I have white-girl syndrome. I have to do as many squats as I can to get a little booty. ... I have to be [diligent]. I'm a curvy girl. You don't want to see me not working out."

On her curves: But she's fine with her curves – and she thinks guys are too. She recalls attending a recent fashion party with her friend and hairstylist Ken Pavés and asking him, "Do you think the guys in here are all really looking at all those skinny girls and thinking, Wow, I want to get with her? Or are they looking at the girls with the curves and thinking, Yeah, I want to get with her!"

Simpson, for one, knows where she stands. "Curves are better," she says. "I don't get the whole rail thing. It's not good for your heart, it's not good for your mind; it's emotionally destructive, it really is."

Nice Jessica! I am very impressed with such positive body image messages coming from her. There are more pics of Jess looking fitter than ever at the airport, so read more
When Does Drew Barrymore Feel Most Beautiful?

Have I mentioned that I am a big fan of Drew Barrymore? Well, I am. Even more so now because she had a great interview with People.com on being one of the World's Most Beautiful People.

People: When do you feel most beautiful?
DB: Right after I've worked out and I'm sweating all over the place and my face is two different colors of white and red and my hair is half wet, half dry and I look like I'm about to have a heart attack. I feel like I've changed the shape of my body temporarily into something more flexible and strong.
People: How does your diet affect your looks?
DB: If I eat healthy, I feel healthy. If I eat a bunch of crap, I feel like crap. But I can't be disciplined all the time. I love those days where I just pig out and have the biggest breakfast on the planet with all my girlfriends and we talk about the night before.
People: What are you insecure about?
DB: I always wished I were taller [she's 5'4"]. Especially going to concerts – I really can't see! But I am what I am. I'm grateful. I'm not gonna complain.

No wonder CoverGirl wanted Drew, and her fresh outlook on life, to represent them. To see more pics of Drew at her CoverGirl party, read more
Get the Bod: Jessica Biel

Jessica Biel's trainer, Jason Walsh has recently revealed to People what this starlet has been doing for the past 8 months to be looking so darn buff.

Jessica Biel’s Workout:

Stretch: One of her favorite warm-ups is the walking lunge. “This stretches the larger leg and glute muscles,” says Walsh. How-to: With feet together, lunge first with right leg. Bring left foot alongside right. Lunge with left. Do 8-10 per leg.

Cardio: “It’s the cardio that leans her out,” says Walsh. After a ½-mile jog, they hit the track for two 200-meter, 150-meter and 100-meter sprints.

Core: “Hanging leg raises don’t build a six-pack, but they flatten,” says Walsh. “Jessica hates them, but she powers through!” How-to: Hanging from a high bar or rings, pull knees up slightly above waist. Do three sets of 15 repetitions.

Plyometrics: “These hurt,” says Walsh of stair jumping. “Even athletes hate them. After Jessica did these the first time, she would’ve punched me if she had the energy.” How-to: Jump from the bottom step of a flight of at least 20 stairs to the third. Keep going, skipping a stair each jump.

Weight Training: “We tend to use lighter weights and do more reps,” he says. “We keep moving, so it becomes a cardio workout too.”

For the waist: They do the Russian Twist. Sit down and lean back slightly. Hold a 5-lb. medicine ball and twist from side to side, 15 twists per side, three reps.

For shoulders/biceps: Stand with knees slightly bent. Hold 10-lb. weights in each hand. Curl to chest. Rotate hands, palms face outward. Press overhead together. Do 3 sets of 10-12 reps.

Want to find out about Jessica's diet and new year's resolution too, then read more.

Jessica Biel’s Diet:

“Clean foods”- those that aren’t processed-are on the menu Walsh created. “She eats complex carbs at the beginning of the day,” he says, “and tapers off by the end.”

Breakfast: 1 cup of oatmeal with handful of berries.

Snack: 1 slice whole wheat toast, 1-1 ½ tbsp. of almond butter and sliced bananas on top.

Lunch: Salad with 5-6 oz of chicken, vinaigrette dressing.

Snack: A banana, apple or strawberries.

Dinner: 6oz. of fish, plate full of veggies, 1/2 cup of low-glycemic basmati rice. Sweets A couple of pieces of dark chocolate.

Jessica Biel’s New Year’s Resolution:

“Stop eating cheese and start eating kale. I eat way too much cheese. Kale is good for you and delicious with a little garlic.”

Check out this great workout created by Jessica's trainer: Circuit Workout by Celebrity Trainer Jason Walsh as well as ways to get Jessica's arms.

Dealing With Rude People at the Gym

Working out is supposed to relieve stress and calm your nerves, but when I have to deal with rude people while trying to work out, it really aggravates me. If you find yourself putting up with inconsiderate and disrespectful fellow gym-goers, here is some advice from other FitSugar readers.

Syako says, "Usually I just ignore things that aggravate me or I find rude."

"People are quite often rude in my gym. Not to be rude per say, but just very self-involved with no consideration for others. Anyway, I use the opportunity to laugh in disbelief. The laughing puts me in a good mood." - michiny

StaceyP says to speak up for yourself. "I once had a woman jump in front of me to take a spot in a pool lane for which I had obviously been very patiently waiting for before she even walked through the door. As politely as I could, I stepped in and simply said that I had been waiting for it."

"My mother always said if people are in such a rush and rude, let them go." - TrnSmleShiftRpt

"I pity them. I feel sorry for people who have become adults and not yet learned how to treat other people with respect. I silently thank my parents for raising me with some sense that what I want isn't always the most important thing in the world. I take a deep breath and feel grateful for having a happy, full life, filled with people who love me; that getting the first bike in the class isn't the best thing that happened to me all day." - Vsugar

To see the other suggestions read more.

If there are rude people at the gym, one anonymous reader just exercises harder and says, "It is amazing how hard I can work out when I'm miffed."

Candace Foxx uses a little sarcasm when it comes to rude people. When a couple started using the piece of equipment she was about to use, she says, "I just stood there and stared. Then, after they were finished, the guy was like, 'Oh, were you using that?' I said, 'No, I just brought the bench clear across the room for you guys to use it.'"

You could always complain to the people who run the gym, suggests tlsgirl.

Even though you may not be able to make others be more polite, you can choose not to be rude yourself. NikkiRuby shares, "I have a tattoo that covers my entire back. One day I was running on the treadmill and mid run I had an older woman come up to me, stopped me from running and said, 'I don't understand why such a pretty girl would get such an ugly tattoo.' I could not believe it! . . . I just simply responded with, 'You don't have to be rude.' If she wants to live her life putting her negative energy on others that is her choice. I just can't be that cruel."

What's the Diff: Omega-3s vs. Omega-6s

Omegas are all the buzz right now, and it seems like everywhere you turn, new foods are being enhanced with this essential fatty acid, or labeled as an excellent source. What people don't know is that there are different types of omegas, and eating too much of one kind can actually be harmful to your body.

Omega-3s are found in flax seeds, walnuts, cod liver oil, and fatty fish like mackerel, lake trout, albacore tuna, and salmon. Fish are the best sources because they are high in two particular fatty acids that are crucial to good health, DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) and EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid).

Then there are omega-6s. These fats are found in eggs, nuts, chicken, and vegetable oils such as corn, soy, safflower, and sunflower oil. Omega-6s are high in LA (linoleic acid), which is converted by the body into GLA (gamma-linolenic acid), and then further broken down to AA (arachidonic acid).

Do you know which type of omega fatty acid we should be eating more of? To find out, keep reading

Speak Up: How Do You Deal With Rude People at the Gym?

My bike was in the shop for a tune-up, but my legs were itching to ride. So I decided to hit the gym and take a spinning class. The noon slot is especially busy, so I went 15 minutes early and waited outside the class door until the previous class let out. Well it looks like some guy had the same plan, and he was also waiting outside. As soon as the door swung open and the sweaty folks made their way out, he bolted in the room, and practically pushed me into the water cooler. His rudeness really put a damper on my mood. I mean we're not in kindergarten racing to see who gets to the slide first. I guess it's to be expected when sharing a gym with hundreds of other people, but it's still frustrating. Does this ever happen to you? If so, how do you deal with rude people at the gym?
