Eating a balanced vegetarian diet can be much healthier than a diet that includes meat, since it tends to be lower in saturated fat and cholesterol. It also includes tons of fruits and veggies, so a vegetarian diet can be full of vitamins and fiber too. As long as a meat-free diet includes plenty of dairy products, whole grains, and beans, getting enough protein should be a cinch.

Well, there are ways to stack the cards in your favor. New research indicates that children with active parents, even during pregnancy, are more active and healthy too.

Obese people looking to adopt children from China need to either head to the gym or look no more because Chinese officials won't allow it. New restrictions ban obese couples with a Body Mass Index of more than 40 (per person) from adopting Chinese children.

Parents model behavior for their children, whether consciously or not. A recent survey conducted by British teen mag Sugar (no relation to the PopSugar Network) found that a dieting mother can have unfortunate consequences for daughters.
Out of the 512 girls surveyed, ages 12 to 18, six percent had an eating disorder; that number rose to one in 10 among girls with mothers who dieted.

Wearing sunscreen is a great way to protect your skin from the harmful rays that can lead to skin cancer, but unfortunately, two new studies suggest that your risk could be inherited. One study found that if an identical twin had melanoma, it increased the other twin's risk as well. The second study showed that those who had a sibling or parent with skin cancer also had an increased risk of developing this disease.

I definitely didn't learn my healthy eating habits from my parents, since I grew up eating my fair share of sugary cereals, candy, McDonald's, and soda. As I grew older, I realized the importance of nutritious foods, and now I try to teach my parents how to eat healthier. They're slowly getting it, but they still love their junk food.

A recent report from Newsweek points to a trend in parents hiring personal trainers for their kids. Some parents do it to help with weight loss, others to give their kid a leg up in sports or simply because they want to instill in their child a love of physical activity, but regardless of the reason, I am curious how you guys feel about it. So do you think it's a good idea for parents to hire a personal trainer for their kids?

Last week I was at the gym and I noticed a mom on her way to a regular group class with her tiny, sleeping baby in a Björn-type thing. Even though I had no idea what type of class it was, I thought to myself, well good for her for being creative and fitting in exercise with a new baby. Later in the locker room, I overheard two participants from the class complaining about how the mom brought her child to the class.
