I went for a run in the woods with my dog yesterday, and I brought the neighbor's dog too, since Bonnie loves the company. This furry friend is almost 100 pounds, and a little clumsy, so when I started doing my sprint intervals, he got excited and sprinted right into me, knocking me clean on my behind. I laid on the ground in shock and held back the tears, while I felt the left side of my bum and elbow throbbing from the impact.

Spring is approaching fast and that means so are the April showers (ugh), which means my outdoor runs are about to get a little messier.
I've been on the hunt for a jacket that I can keep in my desk at work so I can continue my lunch break runs, even if it starts raining unexpectedly. I am happy I've found The Isotope ($89.95), a fully waterproof and breathable jacket.

If you're too hot to run, bike, or hike outside, but you still want to enjoy the Summer weather, exercising on water is a great way to beat the heat. Kayaking is one of my favorite water sports because it's safe to do alone, or if you prefer some company, you can kayak with a group of people.
The paddling action will effectively tone your arms, back, and abs.

Dear Fit,
I've been running consistently, at least three times a week for a couple years now. I live where the Winters are cold and snowy, and last year I moved all my workouts and runs into a gym, but I really didn't love it. I decided that this year, I wouldn't let the cold stop me from continuing my outdoor runs.

Well it's September, and for many of us, a crisp Fall breeze is in the air, especially in the early mornings. If you're one of those people who love to exercise outside before work, then you're probably realizing that Summer is quickly waving goodbye. I know when I'm cold, I don't feel very motivated to move.

- Some people are pre-programmed for a heightened response to stress by conditions in the womb. Pregnant women under stress who eat a diet high in protein and low in carbohydrates have babies with higher cortisol levels. Later on, these levels increase in response to stress.
