The Opening Ceremony of the Olympics Is Tonight - Will You Be Watching?

The anticipation has been building and finally the opening ceremony of the Olympics is tonight! The program is reported to be three and half hours long and quite lavish. NBC was so impressed with rehearsals that they extended their coverage of the show and the show will air 7:30 ET/PT, instead of 8:00. I am curious if you will be watching?

Goodbye Olympics, Hello US Open!

Whether you're relieved or disappointed that the Olympics are over, you can now channel your sports watching elsewhere. The US Open kicks off today in New York!

I always love watching the Open: It's the only Grand Slam tournament held in the US, which makes it feel more familiar even if I can't sit courtside. This year, the Open is celebrating its 40th anniversary, so there'll be some extra nostalgia, including an opening ceremony (tonight at 7 p.m. EDT) highlighting the tournament's singles champs over the past four decades.

The Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal rivalry will be in full force. Though Federer ceded his number one ranking to Nadal, he has won the past four US Opens, so a potential final against Nadal would be a must-see. Other big names to watch will be Lindsay Davenport, who is back after battling injuries, and Elena Dementieva, who just won the gold medal in women's singles Beijing. The way the matches shake out, there's no way that the Williams sisters, who scored Olympic gold in doubles, could face each other in the final match, but here's hoping they come back strong after Beijing.

When to Watch: Gymnastics

After tonight's opening ceremonies for the Olympics, the competition starts almost immediately and gymnastics are no exception. The men's qualifying rounds start Saturday, and unfortunately Morgan Hamm will not be competing. Yesterday he joined his twin Paul, a gold medalist in 2004 games, on the injured list and is out due to an ankle injury. The men's gymnastic team will carry on and I am sure it will prove exciting.

When I asked a while back, you all were most fired up about gymnastics, I thought I would post the general schedule of those events so you can watch or at least set up your TiVo.

While the majority of you were not big fans of the Olympic gear designed by Ralph Lauren, there were many of you who were. Polo Ralph Lauren Olympic Uniforms: Cool or Not?

It seems that everyone is gearing up for the Olympics this August, some more than others.

My pal geeksugar found a first look at the new Olympic uniforms on Towleroad and I just had to share them with you. As you can probably tell, Polo Ralph Lauren has designed the official U.S. Olympic Team uniforms (for athletes to wear during the Opening and Closing ceremonies as well as "village wear" during the 2008 Olympics in Beijing) and I'm not sure how I feel about them. They just don't scream American athlete to me. Of course I'm dying to know what you guys think about the new uniforms, so cast your vote below.
