Often I feel we deserve medals for dealing with the cramps, crying spells, and other delights that accompany that time of the month. Some women even have to deal with heavy bleeding that lasts more than 10 days.
To control the bleeding without using birth control pills, women can now opt for a surgical procedure called endometrial ablation, which takes about 90 seconds.

Not all women feel the same during menstruation. Some feel like sitting on the couch cuddled up with a heating pad and a pint of Ben & Jerry's, and others have tons of energy to go for a run. I'm a firm believer in listening to your body, but I also know that a little exercise can help alleviate cramps (and your rotten mood).

Most of the women I know use tampons when they have their periods. They're discreet, easy to use, and make things like swimming, exercising, and sleeping so much more comfortable. Once a month, I raise my bar of chocolate in thanks to the marvelous inventor of tampons.

As if having to deal with "that time of the month" isn't enough of a pain, many women suffer from painful menstruation due to endometriosis.
Endometriosis is the condition when uterine lining tissue strays outside the womb and grows in places it isn't supposed to be. Pretty much anywhere in the pelvic cavity is unfortunately fair game for this stray tissue, and it can often be found on the ovaries, the fallopian tubes, and on the pelvic sidewall.

HEALTH GUIDE REFERENCE FROM A.D.A.M
Amenorrhea is the lack of menstrual flow and can be a normal occurrence or a sign of malfunction or disease. In primary amenorrhea, menstruation does not begin when expected (by the age of 16). Secondary amenorrhea occurs when the normal established menstrual cycle is shut down for 6 or more months due to a condition other than pregnancy, breastfeeding or menopause.
