Orlando Bloom Talks Swashbuckling, Fear, and Fitness With Men's Health

In a simple and sexy black t-shirt, Orlando Bloom struck a pose for the October cover of Men's Health. Normally we see Orlando's wife, supermodel Miranda Kerr, doing her thing for photographers, but Orlando is equally talented in front of the lens. Orlando is currently shooting The Hobbit in New Zealand, but he spoke with a reporter for the magazine recently and dished about his other physically demanding project, The Three Musketeers, which is due in theaters Oct. 21. Orlando's secrets to staying in shape, tackling fears, and having a healthy sense of risk are some of the topics covered in the interview. He said:

Orlando on beating his moments of doubt: "I call [doubts] my mind critters. Can I defeat myself? I really like going downhill on a mountain bike, and if I just feather the front brake and let it roll, I’m fine. But if I’m not in that zone and I clutch that brake, boom, I’m over the handlebars. Or worse."
Orlando on fear: "Fear is not a friend of mine. But it’s something to have a healthy awareness of."
Orlando on having a healthy sense of risk: "I can’t stop living. It would ruin my creativity, the person I am."
Orlando on success vs. greatness: "To an untrained eye, yes, success is what people aspire to, and only success. The thing is, success can allow you to try for greatness, can give you an opportunity to take a chance on something. I’m very blessed to have the success that I’ve had, and that’s given me so many opportunities to work on being great."
Orlando on fencing: "I love swordplay. It’s a mental and physical challenge. It can also be balletic and dancelike."

Matt and Emily Team Up For Two Healthy Covers

The Adjustment Bureau costars Matt Damon and Emily Blunt were the lucky ones chosen to be the first-ever cover stars of both Men's and Women's Heath, which hit newsstands today. Emily has been doing double duty promoting their collaboration as well as Gnomeo and Juliet, and we had the chance to learn all about her former gnome fears while at the recent junket for the animated picture. Emily and Matt are on the March editions of the Health magazines to chat all about their upcoming film, their close friendship, and how she got into shape to play a ballet dancer. Matt also shared a few choice words about movies he feels are made just based on a star's power at the box office - projects that he strives to avoid. They said:

Matt on Emily's acting abilities: "There are a lot of great actresses her age right now, but Emily is just f-king unbelievable."
Emily on having fun with Matt: "I met Matt and he was lovely and very funny, and instantly, I thought, 'Oh, we could be like teenage boys together. Just be weird and stupid and silly.'"
Emily on getting in shape to play a ballet dancer: "I looked like an aerobics teacher. My shoulders puffed out, my back looked like there was a barrel of snakes in it and I had an eight-pack!"
Matt on movies that are just star vehicles: "That’s like watching someone jerk off, really. It’s just absolutely not at all interesting, and not something I want to spend any time doing."

Fittest and Fattest Cities According to Men's Health

Every year Men's Health magazine likes to flex its research muscle and rank 100 US cities by their heft. Well, there is a bit more criteria involved than just BMI.

To create the ranking, Men's Health looked at: percentage of the city's population who are overweight; the percentage of citizens diagnosed with type 2 diabetes; the percentage of residents who haven't left the couch in a month based on the CDC Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (an ongoing telephone survey); the money spent on junk food using figures on consumer spending from Bureau of Labor Statistics; and finally, the number of people who ate fast food nine or more times in a month with stats coming from Mediamark.

Based on all that info, here are the 10 cities found to be the fattest in the nation:

El Paso, TX
Dallas, TX
Memphis, TN
Kansas City, MO
San Antonio, TX

Ryan Phillippe showed his amazing abs, arms, and shoulders on the May cover of Men's Health. The MacGruber star is making the press rounds before his film's release and the conversation ranged from the professional to the personal. He talked about his love for working out and his new diet after discovering a gluten allergy, and he continued to discuss his divorce from Reese Witherspoon. Ryan said:

On getting over his divorce: "I still have sadness and complicated feelings about my divorce. But how beneficial is it to keep hanging onto those feelings? If someone lives through an accident, his aim is to become better and healthy. My aim is always to progress - to make better decisions and be a better father, a better boyfriend, a better husband if it happens again, a better friend, a better actor. My goals are to improve in all areas of life."
On his love for working out: "I like feeling strong. I want to throw my kids up in the air and wrestle them. Working out has become about functionality. I want my head clearer, I want to relieve the stress, and I want to feel capable and strong."
On cooking for Ava and Deacon: "There's something about the kids knowing the parent is making the food for them with love. It's worth it to me to do that extra work whenever possible, because I see the benefit it has. My kids think I'm an amazing cook, and that's all that matters."

People's Choice Nominee Taylor Gets Physical in Men's Health

And the Healthiest City For Women Is . . .

Although Burlington, VT, was recently named the healthiest city by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and Self magazine determined that Bethesda, MD, scores highest when it comes to women's health, the lists don't end there. Now Men's Health and Women's Health magazines have come up with their own versions. The duo rated 100 of the largest US cities and ranked them from best to worst. Top on their list for women is Salt Lake City, UT. For men, the healthiest place to live is Madison, WI.
