Sep 28 2009 - 12:30pm I was going on a trip and picked up some
Kashi TLC Trail Mix bars. I trust their products completely so don't feel it's necessary to read labels before buying them. While in the car, I happened to check out the list of ingredients and saw vegetable glycerin.

Weird you're concerned about vegetable glycerin. That's all you're concerned about in the product not the five different types of sugar sweeteners?
Brown Rice Syrup, Evaporate Cane Juice Crystals, Evaporate cane juice syrup, Honey and Molasses.
Could they add more sugarsubstances to something "healthy".
1seriously, wackdoodle, I saw that... why can't we just enjoy grains and oats in their natural state? Its like bars that put frosting on top.... take that crap off and we save even more calories on our diet snack, come on!
2I think the point of the post was more along the lines of using the kashi bars as a platform to explain what vegetable glycerin is, not to promote these particular kashi bars as being the healthiest food on earth. I thought the information on vegetable glycerin was helpful. But I agree that it seems odd they would need to include so many sweeteners. I personally burnt myself out on kashi bars long ago, so it doesn't really impact me
3I know what you're saying, but Kashi bugs me for this reason, they tote their "wholesome goodness" (which is, in my opinion, a phrase that needs instant eradication) but its SUGARY beyond belief
4I'm a big fan of Kashi cereals and frozen meals, but for some reason, I can't properly digest these particular bars. And I typically don't have any food sensitivity issues. Bleh.
5I'm with wackdoodle and mamasita...I hate products that call themselves "healthy", but are basically processed junk using so-called "all natural" sweeteners. Sugar's sugar, no matter what form it's in.
6I am also a big fan of Kashi, and not because it's 100% healthy. I enjoy the taste, dont feel sick after eating it (like i do when i eat one of those kelloggs or oat quaker bars (i dont know how they are spelled, sorry about that)
7Plus I dont want to obsess too much about healthy ingredient. I would look at the ingredients more carefully if I would be eating a pack of this a day.
Yeah - I agree, I don't get the whole sweeten EVERYTHING to the max thing. And then when you get something sugar free it always has Splenda which is chlorine and sugar fused. I wish it would be easier to find food - just plain unsweetened food in the supermarket.
Also, did anyone notice - peanut flour? Weird. Why would this bar even need corn or peanut flour. But yeah Vegetable fat is healthy and balanced in omega 3's and 6s.
8Oh also - haha Evaporated Cane Juice Crystals/ Syrup?!?! I can't believe they would even write it like that - evaporated cane juice crystals is sugar (normal white sugar from the sugar cane) and the syrup - is sugar cane syrup like corn syrup. I think they don't hold the label reader as intelligent...
9Being vegetarian, I wish every company specified what was animal glycerin and what was vegetable. That way it would be a lot easier to know what was in the food. Its a little deceptive that some people might not know its animal fat based.
10Wasn't there a recent article on coconut/palm oil being the new "evil" oil? And vegetable glycerin is apparently made from it. Is there nothing left to eat?!?!? ;p
11This post has nothing to do with how healthy or unhealthy kashi bars are. So I basically just wasted my time reading everyones stupid a$$ opinion on that instead of learning information about vegetable glycerin.....
