You Asked: Jackie Warner's New Project

After reading our review of Jackie Warner's fitness DVD Workout One-on-One Training, many of you expressed curiosity over the future of her hit Bravo series, Work Out. After making a call to Sky Sport Spa - Warner's gym - today, I was told the unfortunate news that the show won't be returning for a fourth season.

I was a bit bummed to hear this but then I remembered Warner has a new show in the works, Thintervention With Jackie Warner. Not only that, Bravo is still looking for real folks struggling with weight loss to cast in the series. Thintervention will feature Warner working with individuals in their day-to-day environments to give them a complete lifestyle overhaul.

Learn the details of this new weight-loss reality show when you read more.
A press release from Bravo breaks down the show's formula:

Each episode of the one hour series will feature a grueling workout with Warner pushing her clients to their emotional and physical limits, a therapy session to get to the root of their weight issues, and a life lesson in nutrition such as grocery shopping or surprise raids of their home kitchens.

Thintervention seems to be banking on the success of The Biggest Loser formula, and given Warner's no-BS attitude, I'm sure we'll see more than a few tears shed as the season goes on. What we won't see is all the drama in Warner's personal life and the lives of her trainers. Personally, I think the drama is what helped make Work Out such a hit among, viewers so it'll be interesting to see how her new show fares.

Are you excited about Thintervention, or do you want Work Out to come back?

Work Out: One-on-One Training With Jackie

I definitely was a fan of Jackie Warner's Bravo show, Work Out. And though I didn't always agree with the drama in her personal life, Warner's workout ethic is inspiring. I was recently given a copy of the fitness DVD, Workout: One-on-One Training With Jackie ($10) and the picture of Warner on the cover was enough to make me drop and give her 20. It's obvious that Warner works hard for her body, and that's enough for me to buy what she's selling.

Warner has designed an intense workout that focuses on upper body, lower body, and core. You can combine the three sections together for a grueling one-hour workout, or just focus on one area for about 20 minutes. Warner is great at talking you through the moves, and there are also modifications for beginners and the more advanced.

To hear more of my thoughts on Workout, read more.

I like my workouts to feel intense but to also fly by, and Warner provides that to a tee. Her workout offers a wide variety of moves with a lot of twists on the classics, and she offers little rest between them. Don't be fooled by how quickly time moves though, this is definitely an intense cross training workout - it combines alternating strength (you'll need hand weights) and cardio exercises. After doing this workout my abs were definitely sore the next day.

I think fans of Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred will really appreciate Workout. They both move at the same pace and each trainer has a similar no-nonsense, but encouraging approach. Beginners might benefit from Warner's DVD a bit more though because unlike Michaels, she does a much better job at instructing. This was especially helpful during the exercises where weights are used.

My only beef with the DVD is that there were some segments in which all of her trainers did not participate. Instead of going off camera they sat in the background, which might be a little distracting or uninspiring for viewers. Despite that criticism I definitely recommend this DVD and can attest that my abs were still sore two days later!

Get Your Butt in Gear: Sky Lab by Jackie Warner

I don't know if any of you guys were following the show Bravo's Workout with Jackie Warner, but I certainly was and that is why I am thrilled about this new clothing line.

Sky Lab by Jackie Warner was just launched at Paiva.com (a great site for cool workout gear). The clothes are pretty simple but very versatile. Oh, and I will say, Jackie is definitely one celebrity who I feel is fit to create a clothing line. So I am definitely ordering those cute capri pants and maybe even a strappy bra. I tend to like Jackie's style so I can't wait to see how the line develops in the future.

To check out the hot new line, read more

Take a look and if you like, order some stuff from paiva.com.

Celebrity Trainer Gunnar Peterson Says Get More Sleep

Celebrity trainer Gunnar Peterson is no stranger to pet projects. Not only did he help Jennifer Lopez train for her triathlon last Fall, he also teamed up with Molly Sims to help the canine set get some more exercise with the PetFit Challenge. These days he is teaming up with Gatorade to spread the fitness word, which he did at the G Gym during the Sundance Film Festival. Recently, I was able to do a brief interview with him - he is a busy man. More a man of action than words, I went right to the heart of the matter and asked about core work.

FitSugar: Let's get down to business - what is your favorite core exercise?
Gunnar Peterson: I’m a big fan of the wood chop, whether it’s standing with a medicine ball, kneeling with a cable, or on a stability ball with a dumbbell.

FS: If I only have time for one strength training move at the gym, what multitasking move should I do?
GP: Squat with bicep curl and overhead dumbbell press, all in one.

FS: What do you recommend for a post-workout snack, after a 60-minute training session of cardio and strength training?
GP: This is what I would consider perfect eating after a workout: salmon, a yam, broccoli and Gatorade.

FS: Speaking of Gatorade, what is your favorite flavor, and when do you think sports drinks come in handy?
GP: I am a lemon lime lover! The original G (Gatorade) for the original G (Gunnar)! You should drink Gatorade during a vigorous workout and post vigorous workout, sports drinks are best.

To hear what Gunnar has to say about training celebs, read more.

FS: Tell us one thing we don’t know about celeb fitness. What is your typical day like? When do you work out?
GP: My typical day starts at 4 a.m. I train before my clients, and I work with seven to nine people between 6 a.m. and 7 p.m. While that may not sound like a great day to some, it’s a great day to me. Celebrities work out a lot harder and a lot more consistently than they’re given credit for. They do what they do as well as they do it in peak condition under a microscope. That’s a tall order to fill.

FS: If we could change one thing to live fitter/healthier lives, what would it be?
GP: Get more sleep.

FS: What do you think of reality weight loss TV shows, like the Biggest Loser? What about Jackie Warner’s Workout?
GP: Any show that motivates people to do more for health and fitness than they’re currently doing is a success in my book.

FS: Any advice for folks making New Year’s resolutions to lose weight?
GP: Don’t make a big deal out of the resolution. Of the three “D’s” involved - decide, discuss, and do - eliminate “discuss.”

Take Your Lunges For a Treadmill Walk

Lately, I have been pressed for time and have been searching for ways to combine strength training and cardio equipment. Trainer Jackie Warner, of Bravo TV's Workout, shared this tip with Prevention, and after trying it last night, I am going to share it with you. Add lunges to your treadmill walking workout. Not just any old lunges. Nope. Lunges with the incline set to 15 percent. To make this action doable, you must slow the belt down and decrease the treadmill speed to two and a half or three miles per hour.

You can incorporate this move into your walking workout like this: after warming up, alternate two minutes of walking lunges, holding onto the handles if you need to, with two minutes of power-walking at a one percent grade followed by two minutes of recovery walking at an easy pace.

Not only does this get your heart rate going, but this move will also tone your glutes and thighs. Try it and tell me what you think.

Unhealthiest Cocktails of Summer

Summer is a time to let loose, but don't let too loose says Newsweek. When the mercury rises, so do the calories in some of our favorite alcoholic beverages. Here are the top six cocktails that'll do a number on your diet:

Margarita. If you use a sugar-saturated Margarita mix, add tequila or Triple Sec, and then pour the drink into a salt-rimmed glass, the result could set you back 850 calories, Jackie Warner, a fitness trainer and the star of the Bravo network's Work Out says.

Mudslide. A 12-ounce frozen mudslide-made with vodka, Kahlua liqueur, Bailey's Irish Cream, and vanilla ice cream - tastes like an alcoholic milkshake and is just about as unhealthy. It has 820 calories and 27.2 grams of fat.

Piña Colada. If you like piña coladas, watch out: the rum, pineapple juice, and cream of coconut drink can contain up to 650 calories.

There's three more so read more.

Mint Julep. You don't need a straw hat or a horserace to drink a mint julep. But the concoction of bourbon and mint-and-sugar syrup might set your diet back. One glass contains about 472 calories.

Mojito. The classic mojito - a mixture of lime juice, sugar, mint leaves, rum, and soda - will run you about 242 calories.

Daiquiri. A frozen strawberry daiquiri, made from strawberry schnapps, rum, lime juice, sugar, and strawberries contains about 220 calories.

As fun as they are, especially a mudslide - yum! - I think I'll be sticking to my occasional glass of wine. What about you?

Get Motivated, Visually

We are always looking for ways to stay motivated on a workout and/or healthy eating kick. Sometimes all it takes is a good visual to keep you going, especially if you're a visual person like me. Try these tips to motivate yourself visually:

Post a picture of yourself at your current weight if you are trying to lose.

Post a picture of yourself at a weight you once were and would like to get back to.

Post a picture of a healthy celebrity you would like to emulate. Jessica Biel perhaps? Here's a pic of her in a bikini. Maybe Jackie Warner is your motivation, here she is.

Post a picture of something that you would like to get healthy, and thus extend your life, for. Maybe your husband, kids, dog, parents (or all of them).

Post a picture of an outfit you would like to feel comfortable in, maybe some cute jeans or a hot string bikini? I am sure you'll be inspired on FabSugar.com.

Post a picture of a reward you'll give youself after you've stuck to it for a while. Maybe a brochure to a resort, a new necklace or it could even be something as small as a new CD... as long as it motivates you.

Fit's Tip: I would post the picture (or pictures) someplace that will really motivate you such as on the fridge, in the pantry, where you keep your gym clothes, in your home gym, on your mirror, etc.

If you have any other visually motivating ideas, I'd love for you to share them so tell us below.

Source
