Pete & Gerry's Organic Eggs

Pete and Gerry's Organic Eggs are organically produced in the fresh air of the White Mountains of New Hampshire. So what makes them organic?

Their hens eat organic grain beginning on their second day of life. They don't give their hens antibiotics or medications. And no pesticides or herbicides are used in the production of the grain that they eat.

What else makes these eggs great? The grain their hens eat is made of certified organic flaxseed, which contains high levels of Omega-3 fatty acids. The Omega-3 in the hen's diet is passed on to their eggs - each egg contains about 200mg of Omega-3. Two of their eggs contain as much Omega-3 as you'll get in 1.5 ounces of fish.

Their hens are raised in cage-free barns, where they can choose where they will lay their eggs and where they want to be. Their hens are also given access to the outdoors.

Their motto? "Happy chickens lay better eggs." I believe it. These are delicious, and I feel good buying them, knowing their hens are treated with kindness and respect.

Gear Up For the 2009 Nike+ Human Race

Last year, Nike hosted the world's largest running event - the first Nike+ Human Race had over 780,000 participants. It was such a hit, they're hosting another one on October 24, 2009, with the hope that this year it will be even bigger.

This race gives runners all over the globe the chance to run a 10K together on the same day. If you want to be part of it, there are two ways you can join. Either sign up for one of the runs hosted by Nike in more than 30 cities around the world. Or you can run a 10K wherever you choose - on a treadmill, in the woods, or by the beach. Just track your run with the Nike+ Sports Kit or the Sportband. Then upload your race data to nikeplus.com.

I did this race last year and it felt amazing to know that hundreds of thousands of people were running the 6.2 miles along with me, so I definitely plan on doing it again this year. If you're interested as well, register here, and then start training - you have about two months until race day.

How to Use This Medicine

Injectable

Your doctor will prescribe your exact dose and tell you how often it should be given. This medicine is given as a shot into one of your muscles.
A nurse or other trained health professional will give you this medicine.
This vaccine is usually given as 3 shots. After the first dose, two more doses are given at 2 months and 6 months after the first dose, unless your doctor tells you otherwise.

If a dose is missed:

This medicine needs to be given on a fixed schedule. If you miss your scheduled shot, call your doctor to make another appointment as soon as possible.

Drugs and Foods to Avoid

Ask your doctor or pharmacist before using any other medicine, including over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal products.

Make sure your doctor knows if you are receiving a treatment or using a medicine that causes a weak immune system. This may include radiation therapy, steroid medicine (such as cortisone, dexamethasone, prednisone, Cortef®, Medrol®), or cancer medicine (such as cyclophosphamide, doxorubicin, etoposide, Adriamycin®, Cytoxan®).
Make sure your doctor knows if you are also using a blood thinner such as warfarin (Coumadin®).

Warnings While Using This Medicine

Make sure your doctor knows if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or if you have a weak immune system because of a disease (such as HIV infection or a genetic defect) or a medicine (such as steroids). Tell your doctor if you have an active infection that is causing fever or chills. Make sure your doctor knows if you have a bleeding problem (such as hemophilia or thrombocytopenia).
This vaccine will not treat cervical cancer, genital warts, or other diseases caused by HPV. It will not protect you against diseases that are caused by HPV types not in the vaccine. This vaccine will not protect you against diseases that are not caused by HPV.
This vaccine does not replace your routine cervical cancer screening. You will need to see your doctor for screening tests even after receiving this medicine.

The Certified Humane Raised & Handled label certifies that animals raised for dairy, lamb, poultry and beef products are treated in a humane manner. This includes that the animals have access to clean and sufficient food and water as well as a safe and healthy environment from birth through to their last day. This term is used on beef, chicken, lamb, pork, turkey and eggs.

Certified Humane Raised & Handled also means that growth hormones are prohibited and that the animals are raised without antibiotics. (A big plus!) Furthermore, the producers must comply with environmental standards. While the processors must meet The American Meat Institute Standards.

Fit's Tip: Buying products with the Certified Humane Raised & Handled label is not only better for the animals but also is widely believed to be better for your health as you are not ingesting unnecessary growth hormones and antibiotics. Because the egg industry can be so twisted and hard to navigate, I always look for eggs with the CHR&H label as it is one of the few determinants in where the eggs came from.
