DIY Gift: Heat Soothing Neck Wrap

I'm all about the holiday season, and I love giving gifts that my friends can actually use. With that in mind, I've decided to replicate my homemade neck wrap, and give the gift of easy relaxation to all my friends.

Making your own at home is super easy and inexpensive -plus your friends will love using the wrap to unwind. All you need is a sock (preferably a longer, knee sock, but most will stretch out), a bag of rice, and lavender or eucalyptus oil, or dried, if you prefer, and some ribbon and note cards (optional for decorating). Still thinking about what to get Dad for Father's Day and Part 1's Gift Ideas didn't work for you? How about these great ideas?

Hire your dad a personal chef for a night - They'll come to his home, cook a healthy meal for him and your mom, and then clean up the mess! If you can't afford to hire a professional, why not cook the meal yourself?!

A private sports lesson - Does your dad like racquetball, tennis, golf, windsurfing, skiing, sailing, water skiing, salsa dancing, tai chi, Pilates, or something else? I'm sure he'll appreciate some tips from a professional.
A Heart Rate Monitor (check out this basic one called the Polar FS1 for $59.95) - guys LOVE gadgets, so this would be a great way to inspire him to exercise and keep his heart and the rest of his body healthy.
An iPod Nano ($150) with Nike + iPod Sports Kit ($30) - If you have a higher budget this Father's Day, this is a great gift your Dad can use on runs. He can chart his time, speed, distance, and calories burned, and upload it to Nike.com.

The Low Down on Toy Safety

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has recently released tips for consumers to practice safe toy purchasing this holiday season.

So while you're scrambling to find last minute gifts, you may want to follow the CPSC's safety tips for buying safe toys:

Magnets – For children under age six, avoid building sets with small magnets. If swallowed, serious injuries and/or death can occur.
Small Parts – For children younger than age three, avoid toys with small parts, which can cause choking.
Ride-on Toys – Riding toys, skateboards and in-line skates go fast and falls could be deadly. Helmets and safety gear should be sized to fit.
Projectile Toys – Projectile toys such as air rockets, darts and sling shots are for older children. Improper use of these toys can result in serious eye injuries.
Chargers and Adapters – Charging batteries should be supervised by adults. Chargers and adapters can pose thermal burn hazards to children.

Once the toys are open be sure to immediately discard plastic wrappings on toys before they become dangerous play things, keep toys appropriate for older children away from younger siblings or neighbors and pay attention to instructions and warnings on battery chargers.

If you're like me you're right in the middle of figuring out gifts for the long list of people you love (or don't totally love, but still are obligated to buy for). I hate buying people gifts that I know are going to promote them being sedentary. It is hard when it comes to games but there are some games that really get you moving.

Cranium. There are so many Craniums out there. I love them all but for getting moving, I like Pop 5. A Whole New Speesees
