Lush, the British beauty brand known for its handmade cosmetics, is branching out with a new hair care range. While it's had shampoo and conditioner for years, this soon-to-launch line of products focuses on styling.

Lush has created three vegan styling gels, all of which have cheeky names. Big Tease features cocoa butter, lemon oil, orange flower absolute and Cupuacu butter. (I've been sent a sample, so I'll let give you my full review as soon as I've had time to work with it a bit more.)

Then there's Goth Juice, a medium-hold gel with hemp oil, fresh lemon infusion, glycerine and oakmoss. It has a spooky-cool ultraviolet hue that makes me want to listen to Bauhaus. Finally, there's King of the Mods, which promises to add lift, shine and control whether you're a Quadrophenia or not.

Along with emollients such as cocoa butter and shea butter, it has 15% coconut, which softens hair and helps it shine without weighing things down. Lush says that washing out the dessicated coconut is tricky, but "definitely worth the bother." Finally, two other products round out this launch: Jasmin and Henna Fluff-Eaze (a treatment for hair that goes fluffy after shampooing), as well as Hair Doctor, a pre-shampoo treatment for oily hair.

Don't Drink Hand Sanitizers (Duh)

I am sure you all already know this...but it is such a bizarre story that I had to share. So I just read an article about a prison inmate being hospitalized for drinking hand sanitizer gel. Yes, it does contain alcohol, but not the same kind found in alcoholic beverages.

The other inmates reported that they saw the man drinking from a "gallon container of Purell hand sanitizer." When the man was questioned as to why he was drinking it, he pointed to the label which read "Active ingredient 63% isopropyl alcohol (isopropanol)." He explained that this percentage was higher that that in vodka.

But this kind of alcohol won't get you drunk. It only takes a small amount of isopropyl to kill someone, by depressing the heart and central nervous system.

The doctors involved with this man are suggesting that the makers of these hand gels change their labels. I'd have to agree because we don't want to walk into a store one day to see that you're getting carded for Purell.

After securing hair at the nape, Tresemmé stylist Jeanie Syfu tamed the style by using a hair color brush (the kind the pros use but are readily available at any beauty store) dipped in the brand's Ultra Firm Control Gel. Nobody would ever really be keen on the idea of putting blood or tears on our lips, so Rain Cosmetics is really lucky that its new lip stain, Blood ($12), and gloss, Tears ($12), are so superlatively great. Blood is a deep pink gel-based stain that's like a thicker, less-red Benetint. The lasting power is excellent when applied on the lips, but it works well on cheeks, too - even though it's not strictly for use as rouge. And thanks to the gel texture, the product spreads on wonderfully, allowing you plenty of time to blend away splotches.

Tears, the less eccentrically named of the two, is perfect if you're tired of supershiny, goopy gloss that makes you look like you just freshened up your makeup before eighth grade science class. Tears isn't sticky, the shine is so subtle that it almost looks more like balm, and it goes over stain or lipstick beautifully. So don't judge a gloss by its slightly creepy packaging; this stuff is much better than your average bodily fluid.

For Kate's hair at the Underworld: Awakening premiere, Abergel says that the key to creating her soft curls was starting low.

Specifically, he prepped the hair with the brand's Coiff Bouffant Lifting & Texturizing Spray Gel on the roots and the Highlight Care Illuminating Cream on the ends. After blow-drying, he then used a one-inch curling iron to wrap strands of Kate's hair starting two inches away from her roots. That way, she had a smooth-on-top look with silky waves below.
