Walk the Walk is a charity committed to raising money and awareness for breast cancer research and cancer care. They are also passionate about encouraging women and men to become healthier, fitter, and to take charge of their own well being.
One of their fundraisers is called the MoonWalk.

My new Thanksgiving motto is, "Burn your pie to earn your pie." And that's burn as in calories. According to Runner's World, the amount of calories burned running a 5k is quite similar to the calories found in a slice of pumpkin pie.

If you're really into snowshoeing, check out the Tubbs 2008 Romp to Stomp Out Breast Cancer. It's a series of fund-raising events that involve snowshoeing walks, races, free demos and prizes. All the proceeds go to benefit the Susan G.

If you love working out in the great outdoors, but don't like going it alone, then check out Team Luna Chix.
There are 27 Luna Chix teams in over 20 cities in the US dedicated to biking (both mountain and road), running, swimming, and racing. The teams are diverse groups of women, including weekend warriors and serious competitors, who come together to train in a supportive environment and have fun doing it.

The day before the 43rd Super Bowl, the 24th annual Tough Guy Competition took place on an old horse farm just outside Birmingham, UK. On the last day of January, 3,000 contestants raced through 21 treacherous obstacles on a course eight "country miles" in length. The course is full of many tunnels, steep descents, barbed wire crawls, muddy swims, and of course trekking through fire.

The more I write about breast cancer, the more I realize the face of the disease is getting younger and younger. Women under 30 are regularly diagnosed with breast cancer – it is no longer a post menopausal disease. I just found the Canadian organization Rethink Breast Cancer.

There are many fun running and walking fundraising events, but Hike For Discovery seems to be a one of a kind opportunity. Backpacking for three days and two nights in the back country to fight leukemia sounds like a memorable experience. Challenging yourself to climb, hike and camp while raising money for an excellent cause is a win-win situation in my book.
