I don't have to read about the shortage of swine flu vaccine, I'm living it. Everywhere I go to get vaccinated it's the same — there are not enough shots to go around. Supplies are extremely limited, and a recent poll conducted by Harvard University School of Public Health says that 70 percent of adults and 66 percent of children who tried to get vaccinated couldn’t.

We're in the heart of Winter and about half of you have managed to remain healthy this season. Props to your immune systems for protecting you from getting sick, and hopefully you can keep up the health streak as the height of flu season approaches. Typically, flu season doesn't peak until February, so there's still time to get your flu shot if you've been putting it off.

My aching right arm is evidence that I've just gotten my annual flu shot. I've been getting them for years, and I'm a strong believer in the shots but I know many folks are opposed to the vaccination. So I am curious, will you be getting a flu shot this year?

I happened to get a flu shot, as did all the members of my family. Only my husband caught the nasty bug this year. He still ended up getting sick with a high fever, a nasty sore throat, coughing, and a stuffy nose.

While I was traveling over the Thanksgiving holiday I noticed an odd occurrences at the airport that I had never witnessed before — flu shots. Did anyone else see this? I kid you not, there were at least three flu shot stands scattered throughout the Chicago airport.

It seems reasonable to say that everyone wants to avoid catching the flu and for that reason many people get vaccinated for the flu. Even though the flu shot isn't guaranteed to protect you against all types of the flu, it is recommended for many populations, like moms and children under five. Some people are adamantly opposed to vaccinations, especially the flu vaccine.

This past Spring, the swine flu scare broke out, and, although it seems to have lost momentum, many folks are still nervous about getting the H1N1 virus. Children, healthcare workers, those who work closely with kids, and pregnant women are the ones who are most at risk, but anyone can develop swine flu. With colder weather on its way and flu season soon to follow, I'm wondering .

Even if you have had your flu shot this year, you need to remain vigilant. This year's flu vaccine is not matched for two of the three strains knocking people down this flu season. Public health officials are also stating that the season has not yet peaked.

Vaccines
- The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention now recommends that children receive 2 doses of the varicella-zoster (Chickenpox) vaccine: the initial vaccine between ages 12 - 15 months, and a booster between 4 - 6 years. Children aged 12 and older and adults who have not had the vaccine should receive 2 doses. Immunization guidelines were changed following research that indicated the effectiveness of the vaccine declines over time.
