When it comes to heart problems, it has been assumed that it's OK to be a bit overweight as long as you exercise regularly. New research is challenging this notion and this new research shows that being active can decrease but not eliminate your risk of heart problems. A new study that followed 39,000 women over 11 years discovered that weight actually plays a significant role in heart health.

I know we've all got our minds on being fit, but I have to say, before I was in a committed relationship, I had much more time to focus on taking care of myself. I could go to health food stores, cook myself wholesome meals, and exercise whenever I wanted.
When I first started dating my now husband, I hate to admit it, but my fitness and health routine flew out the window.

One of the reasons I love running is that it really requires no special gear. You just need a body and a desire to run. Then again, you might not need a racquet or clubs to go for a good jog, but I would suggest quality running shoes.

Since the Oscars are over, how about we chat about something else (even though I'll never stop talking about how amazing Pilobolus was).
I thought you might want to talk about models and how thin they are, since last week was National Eating Disorders Awareness Week.
We could also talk about cleaning your cans, sweating, your favorite sneakers, what reasons you have for not working out, or anything else that's on your mind.

Have you noticed that since working out your resting heart rate is lower than it was? This is no cause for alarm as most athletes (yup, you're an athlete now) generally have low heart rates.
Runner's World gives us this analogy:...consider a bricklayer lifting bricks.

Many people have asked if they are considered healthy if they work out regularly even though they are still overweight.
To clarify, you can be overweight and still be fit. Problems come into play when the cause of being overweight is due to fat and not muscle.

I've accumulated a bunch of fitness DVDs over the years. Some will forever be favorites, like Core Fusion Body Sculpt, and some I've only tried once, like Valerie Bertinelli's Losing It and Keeping Fit.
What's a girl to do with the stacks of fitness DVDs she never uses?

Confession: I love playing video games — I especially love them on the Wii because I get to move, jump, and shake myself into a tizzy. Three fitness games were released for the Wii this last week and even though it's not like doing the real deal outside, the games are a fun way to burn calories and whip your bod into shape.
Nintendo Wii Fit Plus ($20) Wii Fit Plus is Nintendo's follow-up to the popular Wii Fit.

I definitely was a fan of Jackie Warner's Bravo show, Work Out. And though I didn't always agree with the drama in her personal life, Warner's workout ethic is inspiring. I was recently given a copy of the fitness DVD, Workout: One-on-One Training With Jackie ($10) and the picture of Warner on the cover was enough to make me drop and give her 20.

When you're on the road you can't always get to a gym, but that doesn't mean you should throw in the towel when it comes to exercising. Do what Mary J. Blige does while traveling, and bring along a TRX suspension Home Training Kit ($170).
