Remember that scene in Legally Blonde where Elle Woods (Reese Witherspoon) wins her court case because she knows the scientific breakdown of the chemicals involved in a permanent wave? Now you, too, can be a beauty scholar, with our weekly vocabulary lesson, the Bella Glossary.

The glossary term of the week is the orbital bone. I've gotten several questions about this term, as it often shows up in instructions involving eye makeup. We're told, for instance, to pat eye cream around the circumference of the orbital bone and apply highlighter just below the orbital bone. So what the heck is an orbital bone?

Also called "the orbit," the orbital "bone" is actually seven strong bones that make up the encasing of the open socket of the eye; these bones come together to house the actual eye. The peri-orbital skin is the skin/area around your eye. This is the area commonly referred to with beauty products and their application.

Eat Kale: Leafy Greens in Honor of St. Patty's Day

Since St. Patrick's Day is March 17th, why not eat something that's green and loaded with good stuff (instead of the green bagels like they have at my bakery)?

Kale is a member of the same family that you'll find broccoli, cabbage, Brussel sprouts, and cauliflower in, so you know it has got to be good for you. Not only is kale healthy, it's considered to be one of the most highly nutritious vegetables, with powerful immune-boosting antioxidants, as well as a unique rich flavor.

Although you can find this beautiful leafy green vegetable throughout the year, it is in season, and the sweetest tasting from mid-winter through the beginning of spring.

Why is kale so nutritious? It contains something called phytonutrients that may prevent cancer, because they can help to neutralize potentially carcinogenic substances in your body. Kale is also known for its health benefits for your eyes and lungs.

Its deep green color lets you know that kale is an excellent source of all the basic nutrients like vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin B6 and manganese. It is also a very good source of dietary fiber, calcium, copper, and potassium. This combination of vitamins, minerals, and phytonutrients makes kale a vegetable celebrity.

Fit's Tips: Raw kale can have a tough texture and bitter taste. You can lightly steam a few leaves and eat it plain, or add a little dressing and some sesame seeds to it. Or you can rip up the leaves and sauté them with other veggies in a stir-fry.

Sty In My Eye

"Oh my - I'll try not to cry but there's a sty in my eye."

I used to say that all the time when I was in junior high; my hey day of sharing eye liner and mascara. One too many styes made me wise up and use my own make-up.

What exactly is a sty, anyway?

A sty is an acute infection or inflammation of the secretory glands of your eyelid. The gland gets blocked, the oil produced by the gland backs up and forces itself out through the wall of the gland. This forms a little annoying and unexpectedly painful bump on your eyelid.

Bacteria can infect the blocked gland, causing it to become even more irritated and inflamed. If it gets really bad, the infection can cause the white part of your eye to get red, and sometimes the outside of the eye and cheek can become red as well.

The actual bump appears with a whitish or yellowish spot (kind of like a pimple). Multiple styes can form on one lid and they will disappear as soon as the blocked gland is relieved.

Don't share make-up (including eyelash curlers and eye make-up brushes). It's a great reason to get rid of your old make-up and buy new stuff.
Remove eye make-up completely every night before going to bed.
The obvious - Try not to touch or rub your eye unless you've just washed your hands.

If you do get that frustrating little sty:

Apply warm compresses (with your eye closed) to the infected area for about 15 minutes to help with the drainage.
Very gently wash your eyelid with warm water and nonirritating soap like baby shampoo (again - keep your eye closed).
Very important - Do NOT squeeze or puncture your sty - it may get even more infected.
Ditch the eye make-up and eye creams you were using because they may also be infected.
If you're a contact lens wearer, you may want to switch to your glasses until it goes away.

It seems like boating season unofficially begins on Memorial Day weekend with everyone headed to their lake houses, weekend river residences, or the beach. In different parts of the nation, boating accidents, injuries, and unfortunately fatalities are on the rise. Now that I've captured your attention, let's review a few tips on boating safety.

Boater's fatigue is real, and it can wear you down. The US Coast Guard warns people about this condition, created by the combination of wind, noise, heat, and vibration of the boat. All these elements can mentally and physically fatigue boaters and subsequently impair their judgment.
Personal flotation devices, otherwise known as life jackets, are vitally important for everyone on board the boat, be it a canoe or a speed boat. Some states even require children under a certain age to wear life jackets, so if the little ones complain about wearing the big orange life vest, tell them it's the law.
Boating and alcohol don't mix. Alcohol impairs your judgment, balance, and coordination, affects your swimming and diving skills, and reduces your body's ability to stay warm. Coupled with boater's fatigue, folks on a boat will feel the effects of alcohol faster than they would on land. Plus, driving a boat while intoxicated is illegal.
The wind can keep you cool and make you forget you're in the sun, but don't forget to reapply sunscreen every two hours and always after swimming. Lube up even if it's overcast since UV rays can still damage your skin through clouds.
Watch the weather to keep an eye on local weather conditions, and be prepared for electrical storms. Water conducts electricity, so you don't want to find yourself on the open water during a lightning storm.

Cameron Diaz dressed with flirtatious flair in a Catwoman-esque pantsuit at yesterday's UK premiere of What to Expect When You're Expecting. And makeup artist Emma Lovell topped off her ensemble with a cat-eye look filled with feminine charm. "The makeup was designed to complement Cameron's cream Stella McCartney jumpsuit, her choppy blond bob, and her dramatic earrings," Lovell said. "I wanted a cute feline eye to be the main attraction, keeping the lips pretty and fresh with a plum stain."

To do this, Lovell used the Hourglass Visionaire Eye Shadow Duo in Gypsy ($38) to create a glistening neutral eye. She started by applying the sheer shimmering shade on the lids, followed by the bronze tone in the creases and on top of the lash lines. For definition, Lovell then applied Hourglass Calligraphy Liquid Eye Liner ($32). "I started with a very thin line at the inner corner of the eye and made it thicker as I went along, kicking it out for a subtle kitten eye," Lovell explained. "After the liquid liner, I went back along the line with the deep copper shadow to soften it - it's not so retro that way." Finish off with mascara and a set of full falsies (a woman's version of cat whiskers).
