I'm a sucker for Valentine's Day, mostly because I'll take any excuse you throw at me to eat chocolate. Heck, even my doctor says I should incorporate a little bit of dark chocolate into my diet — it can soothe a cough, increase blood flow, and lower blood pressure. Dark chocolate is also full of flavonoids, the antioxidant family that help protect the heart.

One of my New Year's resolutions is to always bring my lunch to work. I'm trying to save money, eat healthier, and have more time so I can go on a long walk during my workday. So far, so good!

You can save money and eat healthier by making your own veggie broth. Step it up a notch and make it by using leftover veggie scraps. Not only will your broth have a nice, rich flavor, you'll also be cutting down on waste.

Seafood is a hard category to navigate: farmed versus wild, mercury levels, and overfishing are just some of the things to think about when buying it. Adding to the confusion is that the arguments on each side are often changing due to the dynamic nature of the industry. I try my best to be a responsible consumer but I'm usually left feeling overwhelmed by all the convoluted information out there.

Saying that I camp a lot is an understatement — for me, camping is something I do year-round, which is why it's really important to have a good headlamp. This is especially true during the Winter months. The last thing I want is to be stuck out somewhere without being able to see where I am going.

After shaking my finger at celebrities who need help at being more eco-friendly, I was happy to come across Green Is Sexy, a blog full of tips on how to live life to the greenest. And though it's not a new blog, it is new to me.
I spent a lot of time reading the awesome tips, recipes, and profiles, but it wasn't until I got to the "about us" section that I was really floored.

Carrying a bottle of Evian is so last decade: disposable water bottles are bad for our wallets, our health, and the environment.
Even though we love that these celebrities spent 2009 working out, they still thought it was OK to carry around a bottle of Fiji or Arrowhead. Can you guess who doesn't know how much cooler it is to carry a Sigg or Nalgene bottle to her workout?

Which yoga practicing actress also keeps it healthy by living a green lifestyle, saying:
"I look at the world through a green lens now, but you can't make yourself crazy. That feeling of green guilt can be really inhibiting. It's about a changing mindset, remembering to turn off the water when you are brushing your teeth."

This holiday season we're hoping that you're taking our suggestions for giving back by donating used sports gear or giving blood. Another way to help is by donating money to a worthy cause — I know a few people who give money to a charity on friends' behalf instead of buying gifts. If you're afraid of showing up empty handed, don't worry.
