Debra Messing Took the Pressure Off and Lost Weight

Debra Messing looks absolutely vibrant on the cover of Shape's January issue, and why shouldn't she have that radiant smile? The actress's outlook on life is positive and she hopes that 2009 will be her healthiest year yet, and it seems this beautiful redhead is more than capable of accomplishing her personal goals. I've always been a fan of the funny actress, but developed a new sense of appreciation for Debra after learning her attitude toward the opinion of others.

Regarding her post-pregnancy weight, she told Shape, "It was written about in the tabloids a lot. On one page it showed all the actresses who got skinny in six weeks or less, and on the other page was me!" This external criticism didn't get her too down though, and after briefly working out with a trainer she realized that she needed to figure out a routine that fit her lifestyle, not the expectations of others.

Debra said, "[The personal trainer] helped me drop the first few pounds, but I was exhausted! I couldn't work out three hours a day and do my job as a mother and an actress. So I took the pressure off: I cut back on seeing the trainer but started eating healthier. Ultimately I'm very proud of how I dropped the weight because I think it was the healthy approach. I've finally taken ownership of my body."

Nice to hear that not every Hollywood mama loses her baby weight before her baby begins to teethe!

Debra Messing was definitely very thin during her Will & Grace days but, like almost every woman on the planet, Debra gained a bit of weight during her pregnancy. This then turned her very slim frame into the frame of a pregnant woman. No shocker there, the real secret is how she lost all the weight.

According to AOL, Debra credits losing her baby weight to breastfeeding as well as hitting the gym with trainer Gunnar Peterson.

Debra Messing's weakness for sugary breakfast cereals and fast-food burgers during her pregnancy contributed to a weight gain of 60 pounds. Breastfeeding her son Roman helped the typically slender star shed some weight. To take off the rest, she hired Hollywood fitness trainer Gunnar Peterson who designed an exercise routine incorporating resistance training.

Maybe you don't have the cash to hire a celebrity trainer but I've got a cardio workout from Gunnar himself, maybe even one that Debra had to do. So check it out here.

Red Carpet Ready: Penelope Cruz

If you think Penelope Cruz has the lithe body of a ballet dancer you would be correct. She studied classical ballet for nine years before switching to acting. So it makes sense that she is into Pilates, which shares a lot of the physical principals of dance.

Penelope also works out with celebrity trainer Gunnar Peterson whose client list includes: Sylvester Stallone, Angelina Jolie, Jennifer Lopez, Matthew McConaughey, and Debra Messing. Her workouts include full-body strength training and cardiovascular exercise. So it is a good thing that she quit smoking a while back (good for her). Sounds like she leads a relatively clean life since she doesn't even drink coffee - it makes her nervous. She's been a vegetarian since 2000, so no red meat either.

No wonder she had to wear a padded booty for her role in Volver.
