America to World, "I'm Curvy!"

There are a lot of starlets in Hollywood that would cause great angst in my life if my daughters held them as a role model. America Ferrera, however, is not one of them. America continues to impress us with her on screen talent as well as her off screen grace, including her healthy outlook on life. She'll be the first to tell you that she's not looking to be a size zero, and that she thinks there's way too much attention placed on the way stars look. Here's more:

"And I think it’s hilarious when people call Jessica Alba or Eva Longoria curvy. Come on – they’re not curvy. I’m curvy!"

America said she was fortunate to nab the role of Betty, because she's not prepared to starve herself for her art. “I’ve been really lucky," she said. "The role has prepared me to be exactly who I am and not to change."

"And what is normal now? Is it normal to be size zero?"

She continued: "Starving yourself is not beautiful.”

Three words: You go girl!

This Razor Lets You Shave Less. What's Not to Love?

Some women love the ritual of shaving. I'm more of the git-r-done viewpoint, preferring to shave as quickly and rarely as possible. The problem is, I usually wind up with nicks or next-day stubble. This is why Schick's new Hydro Silk razor is blowing my mind, at least as much as a razor possibly can. I've been using it for about two months, and no joke, I'm down to shaving once every five days or so. Lest you think I look like an extra in Harry and the Hendersons, my legs remain smooth for days on end. Better still: my usual dry, itchy, post-shave skin is now happily hydrated.

Hydro Silk is Schick's first five-bladed razor for women, and each blade is mounted individually for better movement around curvy parts - which means it's harder to nick your knees and ankles. It tackles irritation and dry skin with a water-activated serum that sits in tiny reservoirs. As you shave, you moisturize. Easy as that. It took seven years to create this razor, and it took only one use for me to start recommending it. Fergie: Curvy Icon?

In March, Vogue Italia launched Vogue Curvy, an online magazine dedicated to women with curvier frames. Besides reporting on all things fashion and beauty, the site features plus-sized models like Crystal Renn and designers who cater to more "womanly" bodies. So far (and not surprisingly) some of the celebs featured on the site have been Christina Hendricks and America Ferrera. Recently, Fergie shared with Vogue Curvy her thoughts on being sexy, kicking old habits, and what it means to stay healthy.

What it's like at home with her. "I like to watch movies and order Indian food and swim with my Dachshunds."
Gaining weight for movie roles. "I ate everything fried and full of fat and salty to gain weight for Nine. I ate everything. Fish and chips. Everything fried - things I don't normally eat. I loved it. But it really took me a while mentally to get back to that routine."
On staying healthy. "I need structure. I need to get enough sleep. I need to make sure that I'm having regular workouts . . . I have to get facials, because when you're traveling, the skin doesn't look as nice."
What she loves most about her body. "My legs never gain weight and that's the only part that never changes."
What she likes least about her body. "I'm too short. I'm five-foot-four."

When Is Skinny Too Skinny?

The debate over the size of today's fashion models has simmered for years, and while the fashion industry has taken steps to embrace the fuller-figure - Vogue Italia's June issue featuring a plus-size model cover should be noted - the majority of models are still skinny. Really skinny. This wasn't always the case; in the days of Cindy Crawford and Naomi Campbell, women were fuller, and a curvier figure was de rigueur. Contrast that with today's standard, which leans more towards waif, like 5'11 Polish model Kasia Wrobel, who most recently walked in the Calvin Klein Resort 2012 show in a drapey silk dress. Part of the trend stems from younger teen models who haven't yet finished growing. Do you like today's standards for thin models, or do you think fashion should take serious steps to encourage a fuller-figure?

Our friends at Lucky magazine spoke with Mad Men costume designer Janie Bryant on dressing actress Christina Hendricks and her secret shapewear sources. We admire Christina's sexy hourglass figure and are thrilled to present Lucky's interview here.

Though there are still a good eight months of hiatus left until Mad Men returns to air next March, costume designer Janie Bryant has been keeping plenty busy. This August, Banana Republic will launch an entire Mad Men-inspired line, which Bryant helped create, featuring party dresses, separates, shoes, and handbags all worthy of Betty, Joan and Peggy. But how will shoppers pull off the looks if they don’t quite have the body? We rang up Bryant to ask her how us modern girls can create those killer retro curves.

What’s it like working with Christina Hendricks?
It’s great! We have a great understanding for her character Joan, and I am always designing pieces for her. We work together closely, and from the beginning there has been a lot of trust. Sometimes she may not be into a certain color, but most of the time she loves everything.

Fergie Doubles Up Her Sports Bras For Workouts - Do You?

We know that Fergie is competitive during her workouts; the singer/actress/shoe designer likes to work out hard. She's also a curvy gal and rather well-endowed up top. To support her lovely lady lumps, Fergie recently told Shape, "I have to wear two sports bras when I do my cardio. It takes a lot to hold these puppies up."

Fortunately or unfortunately, this has never been an issue for me. According to the Bra Book by Moving Comfort, a company that built its street cred on supporting women of all cup sizes during all types of exercise, "a pair of D cup breasts weigh 15 to 23 pounds." With this in mind, I can see how two bras just might be necessary.

"Your stomach is the one part of your body that reacts quickly to dietary changes — good and bad. If you want to look thinner fast, avoid gassy veggies, chewing gum, salt, carbonated beverages, and any foods with sugar alcohols," says Erin Palinski, RD and certified personal trainer. These foods will lead to water retention and bloating, she explains. If you normally eat three larger meals a day, Palinski recommends cutting those portions in half and eating smaller meals every two to three hours. Want more instant fixes for a flatter belly? Standing up taller can make you look 5 pounds slimmer, says Deborah L. Mullen, a certified strength and conditioning specialist in San Luis Obispo, CA. How can you make it a habit? Try Pilates. According to a 6-month pilot study of 18 chronic back pain sufferers, Pilates is one of the best ways to improve posture and strengthen your ab and back muscles.

Jessica Cassity, Prevention's senior fitness editor and a certified Pilates instructor, suggests two moves you can actually do while you're still in bed that will set you straight for the day:

• Belly Ins: Draw belly to spine. Slowly, flattening lower back to bed by using your core (not your butt or legs), press belly down on an exhale, release on an inhale. Do 10 times.

• Roll and Reach: Sit upright with legs bent and pressed together, feet flat on the bed. Reach forward over knees, palms down. Slowly, roll halfway down, then twist right. Reach right fingertips to the low back diagonal (if you’re facing the foot of your bed, you’ll reach toward to top right corner), while stretching left fingertips forward. Twist back to center, bringing right arm front and rolling up to sit. Repeat to left for one rep. Do eight reps.
