What's Your Advice For Getting a Loved One to Shape Up?

You guys are full of great advice and I recently received a question that I thought you would be able to help out with. As they say, two heads are better than one. Here's the question:

"I'm a newlywed and I am concerned for my husband's long-term health. I truly love this man and I want him to be around as long as possible, but he eats like crap and doesn't exercise. I want to try and help him eat better and exercise, but I don't want him to think I am criticizing his appearance (he's not overweight at all) or nagging him. How should I handle it? Or should I just keep my mouth shut?"
- Worried Wife

A lot of people face this problem, if not a husband then a best friend, boyfriend, mother, etc. and I think that one of the best things you can do is to make sure that you are acting as a healthy role model for him. Being critical will get you (and him) nowhere, but inviting your hubby to take a "romantic" stroll after dinner could help in more ways than one.

But that is just my two cents. I am sure you guys have great advice on how to help. Share your advice in the comments section below.

Get Physical: Explore a Museum

Looking for something active to do this weekend with your significant other? The problem is that it's cold outside and depending on where you live possibly rainy or snowy.

Check out a new museum! Walking around a museum is not highly vigorous, but it gets you off the couch, out of the house and walking around. Not sure if your husband will be excited to see the Titanic Exhibit? Mine neither, so try going to different museums that might strike his fancy like The International Spy Museum in Washington DC. Maybe it will even encourage him to get in shape, since it's hard to be an international man of mystery if you're huffing and puffing while running after enemy #1. Or how about The Museum of Sex in NYC. Unless you want to rush through the museum, be sure to let him know that sex burns calories too after you see the exhibits. To find museums near you, check out the American Association of Museums.

Fit's Tip: Be sure to bring a pedometer so you can see how many steps you are really taking. Be careful when eating at the food courts at museums, it could be very easy to eat more calories than you actually burn seeing the sights.

Get Physical: Airplane Pose

Partner Yoga is not just for "lovers." It's a way for any two people who care about each other to connect in a fun way, while increasing their levels of communication, intimacy and trust. You can start off really simple and move onto more difficult poses together.

Airplane
I'm sure you've seen moms doing this with their babies. It's just as easy with grown-ups.

Partner #1 lies on their back on a cushy mat or rug, with their feet straight up, knees slightly bent.

Partner #2 faces their partner and places Partner #1's feet so they're right below their hip bones, toes pointing out.

Both partners hold hands and Partner #2 slowly leans forward as Partner #1 pulls Partner #2 up into flight. Very Important: Partner #2 - keep your feet below your hips.

Stay like this, or Partner #2 can try doing some fancy things. Just make sure both partners are communicating before moving.
