Debra Messing Took the Pressure Off and Lost Weight

Debra Messing looks absolutely vibrant on the cover of Shape's January issue, and why shouldn't she have that radiant smile? The actress's outlook on life is positive and she hopes that 2009 will be her healthiest year yet, and it seems this beautiful redhead is more than capable of accomplishing her personal goals. I've always been a fan of the funny actress, but developed a new sense of appreciation for Debra after learning her attitude toward the opinion of others.

Regarding her post-pregnancy weight, she told Shape, "It was written about in the tabloids a lot. On one page it showed all the actresses who got skinny in six weeks or less, and on the other page was me!" This external criticism didn't get her too down though, and after briefly working out with a trainer she realized that she needed to figure out a routine that fit her lifestyle, not the expectations of others.

read more. Debra said, "[The personal trainer] helped me drop the first few pounds, but I was exhausted! I couldn't work out three hours a day and do my job as a mother and an actress. So I took the pressure off: I cut back on seeing the trainer but started eating healthier. Ultimately I'm very proud of how I dropped the weight because I think it was the healthy approach. I've finally taken ownership of my body." Nice to hear that not every Hollywood mama loses her baby weight before her baby begins to teethe!

We are excited to share one of our fave stories from Shape here on FitSugar.

Over the weekend, I saw a photo of a female celebrity (who is in a relationship with a male celeb) leaving a café with the caption, "Baby bump?" and I had to refrain myself from shouting out loud, "Come on, can't a girl eat without the world thinking she's having a baby?!"

The truth is having a perfectly flat stomach all the time just isn't normal. After you eat or drink, food and liquids naturally expand your stomach and intestines, so at least a little "bump" is inevitable every single day. Did Breastfeeding Really Help You Lose the Weight?

Breastfeeding makes the pregnancy pounds melt off. That statement, and other's like it, are reason enough for many mamas to put their babies to their breasts. Celebs such as Naomi Watts and Angelina Jolie have credited their baby's feeding schedules with their own rapid weight loss, so many of us bought the claim hook, line, and sinker - including Jenna Fischer.

While walking the red carpet at the Screen Actors Guild Awards, Jenna Fischer talked about her struggle to lose the baby weight, saying:

Let me please stand in solidarity with all of the women who are not a size 2 six weeks after leaving the hospital. I thought, you read all of the stuff in magazines like, "Oh, I breastfed my baby and I am so skinny now." I am breastfeeding my baby and I am not getting any skinnier! I think I'm just going to be a little bit bigger for a little bit longer, and that's fine with me.

Jenna, whose son Weston Lee is four months old, joins Salma Hayek - who told Oprah that nursing did nothing to help her lose the weight - and countless others, including myself, who actually found the opposite to be true.
