Although cabbage is unfortunately associated with the soup diet bearing its name, this leafy veggie is a nutritional powerhouse, and as it turns out, it fights breast cancer too. The American Association for Cancer Research believes it is the phytonutrient sulforaphane found in cabbage that stimulates cells to kill carcinogens. In a Polish study, women who ate cabbage or fermented cabbage in the form of sauerkraut at least four times a week, if not more, were 74 percent less likely to develop breast cancer.

The new year represents a fresh start and we all look toward the future with hope. In the foods that folks traditionally eat on New Year's Day, health and prosperity come together in the form of beans and cabbage — two superfoods.
The circular shape of beans represents the cycle of a year ending as well as prosperity — the beans represent coins.

Cabbage is one of those healthy foods that people tend to avoid, but it really is a great alternative to lettuce and so good for you. My favorite type of cabbage is Napa cabbage, which tastes slightly sweeter than other types. Not only does it have a wonderful crunch, but it also has some seriously healthy attributes.

So many holidays have special foods associated with them and now that it is the new year, it is time to say "goodbye" to those sugary candy canes and the chocolate log of goodness Bûche de Noël, and a big "hello" to black eyed peas and cabbage. These two super foods are here to help you usher in a healthy and prosperous 2008.
Black eyed peas are considered good luck in many cultures and are traditionally eaten on New Year's Day in the south.

Broccoli has gained much popularity because as we've all heard - it's loaded with healthy stuff. But really, how good is it?
- Steamed broccoli has more vitamin C than an orange and as much calcium as a glass of milk.
- One medium spear has 3 times more fiber than a slice of wheat bran bread.
- It is one of the richest sources of vitamin A.
- Broccoli, along with spinach, helps to minimize the risk of cataracts.
- Broccoli contains potent cancer fighting phytochemicals.
- It's listed as one of the foods most likely to prevent colon cancer.
-
- Broccoli is not alone: kale, cabbage, Brussels sprouts, cauliflower, and bok choy are in the same family and they all have cancer fighting properties.

There must be 50 ways to love your liver, but to truly love something you have to know what it is all about. Right?
Well, what impresses me most about the liver is not that it is the largest internal organ of the body, but that it performs over 5,000 functions.

I understand that time is ticking and we are always looking for results that are quick and rapid. I understand where that comes from, but where does it stop?
The thing about it all that frustrates me the most is that when it comes to your body, quick and rapid are not terms that we should be looking for -- Especially when it comes to weight loss and exercise.

Move over boneless, skinless chicken breast, there are a couple other lean proteins taking over the plate: shrimp and scallops.
These jewels of the sea make for tasty entrees, as well as appetizers or salad toppings. Easy and quick to make, they're adaptable to almost any cooking method and can be grilled or sauteed, broiled or baked.

Hi Fit,
I'm cooking dinner for my boyfriend on Valentine's Day, but we've been doing so well dieting and working out together that I don't want to splurge too much. Every meal and dessert I can think of is way too fattening or not romantic enough. Do you have any suggestions on how to enjoy the holiday and stay on track?

A while back I received a question from a Sugar user who was looking for a romantic dinner that didn't break the caloric bank. I decided to share the recipes of the dinner I will be making for my hubbie and me to share. The dishes are easy to make, tasty, light, and complement each other nicely.
