Brooks wants you to run, and now they're encouraging your kids to run too. This may seem cruel, but it sure gets those kids moving. Too bad there aren't cheesecake trucks or bacon-wrapped scallop trucks because this could totally work for grown-ups too!

Fittingly Green: Brooks Making Eco-Friendly Sneaks

If you choose to run outside on a trail or sidewalk instead of using an electricity-driven treadmill, you're already doing your part to help the environment. You can do more though, with the help of Brooks. The brand has developed a new racing sneaker called the Green Silence.

This red and yellow shoe may channel Ronald McDonald, but it is actually totally green. The heel cups are made with recycled CDs, and the laces, lining, and stitching are made with discarded plastic water bottles. The outer soles are made from recycled rubber, and the midsole is 100 percent biodegradable. All the soy-based dyes used are non-toxic, and the adhesives are water-based. The collar around the opening of the sneaker is stuffed with foam from old couches. The packaging is also made from 100 percent post-consumer materials. These lightweight sneaks are scheduled to hit stores in February 2010, and will retail for $100, because being green doesn't come cheap.

Some women are pretty particular about the brand of sneaker they wear. Whether you choose because of the style, fit, comfort, activity level, or price, nothing beats a great pairs of kicks.

So, what's your favorite brand? Do you love Brooks because they have sneakers with great arch support? Or maybe you have really narrow feet, so New Balance sneaks fit you snug as a bug.

Have You Ever Hung Up a Photo as Motivation?

I haven't yet cracked a copy of Andre Agassi's new tell-all, Open, but I have been reading reviews and can't help but be fascinated by the revelations about the tennis star, his equally talented wife, and his ex, Brooke Shields. I especially love this tidbit:

In preparation for her wedding to Agassi, Shields embarks on an exercise regimen and hangs an inspiration photo on the refrigerator door. The photo is of the woman who Shields thinks has perfect legs. The woman is Agassi’s future second wife, Steffi Graf.

Growing up, my mom often put a photo of her younger self on the fridge when she was trying to lose weight. Have you ever done anything like this?

Have You Ever Carried Protective Pounds Like Brooke Shields?

It's hard to imagine the beautiful Brooke Shields feeling uncomfortable in her own skin, but she expressed the insecurity she felt as a young actress in a recent interview with Health magazine. When asked about her biggest health regret, Brooke confided that she wished she'd learned self-acceptance much earlier, and explained how her lack of confidence prevented her from losing her virginity before age 22. She continued:

I had the public and all this pressure, and I wish I had just gotten it over with in the beginning when it was sort of OK. I think I would have been much more in touch with myself. I think I wouldn’t have had issues with weight - I carried this protective 20 pounds [in college]. It was all connected. And to me, that’s a health regret.

Learning to love your body is an essential piece of building self-esteem, and Brooke's was knocked down when she experienced public scrutiny. The additional pounds allowed her to put distance between herself and anyone who might get close to her and make her feel even more vulnerable. Have you been through similar weight issues?
