&lt;p&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Besides Carissa&#039;s obvious natural talent, I was curious at what takes someone from being great at surfing to being number one. Carissa&#039;s answer was similar to what you might expect from any great athlete: dedication, confidence, and hard work. Oh, and training - lots of training. For Carissa that means having a surf coach (her father) and a passion for fitness, &quot;As I&#039;ve gotten older, my body has changed tremendously. I have gained weight, lost weight. It wasn&#039;t enough to just surf,&quot; Carissa says. &quot;I have a trainer now. I have a diet.&quot;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Depending on her competition schedule, Carissa works out with Hawaii-based trainer &lt;span class=&quot;nobrand&quot;&gt;Lisa Stewart&lt;/span&gt; two to five times per week. When I spoke with Lisa, she told me that they focus on &quot;cardiovascular training, corrective functional movements, core stabilization, and flexibility training.&quot; She went on to say that before Carissa started training, &quot;her body was strong, but undefined and had many imbalances. With a lot of hard work and training, Carissa is on her way to becoming a specific athlete who is adaptable to any surfing condition.&quot;&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Every now and then, my husband, Casey, and I work out together. When we do, we usually do intervals. We&#039;ll warm up with a nice jog on the beach. Then we&#039;ll do beach sprints. We sprint from one lifeguard station to the next, then we jog to the next lifeguard station, and then run to the lifeguard station after that. Changing up the speed helps burn more calories. &lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Next, we do lunges, push-ups, and a few footwork drills. It&#039;s fun to do sit-ups together, because we can toss around a medicine ball. We usually take the medicine ball and toss it back and forth between us as the other one does a sit-up. If we aren&#039;t jogging, we will work out at home with the exercise ball that we have.&lt;/p&gt;

 <title>The Beach Is a Workout Waiting to Happen</title>

Cameron is one starlet that takes advantage of all the beach has to offer.  I love that she doesn&#039;t just lounge on the sand, but plays in the water practically non-stop.  Which is great since I believe the beach is a workout waiting to happen.&lt;br /&gt;

If you are lucky enough to live near the ocean or will be vacationing soon by the shore, you too should take advantage of all the beach has to offer. But let me tell you, there are more casual and playful ways to burn some extra calories while hanging out at the shore.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;&lt;b&gt;Playing in the Waves&lt;/b&gt;:  Jumping up and down in the surf is great fun and a challenge to your entire body.  Diving under waves and swimming against the tide is a great way to workout with the ocean providing extra resistance.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;b&gt;Swimming&lt;/b&gt;:  Swim out past the break and try some laps in the ocean.  The current creates a natural challenge.  Make sure you stay in sight range of the lifeguard. Remember: If you can&#039;t see the guards, they can&#039;t see you.

&lt;b&gt;Body Surfing&lt;/b&gt;:  Riding the waves without a board is a fun way to experience the ocean.
