Oct 22 2009 - 3:00am When it comes to strength training, I am usually a free weight kind of gal. Then I learned to love the cable pulley machine. I was still looking to branch out a little more, so my trainer Hannah introduced me to the Smith machine.
My gym have a smith´s machine with vertical and horizontal movement and I love this machine, its amazing when you do lunges or squats with a lot of weight.
I like to do squats and lunges on the Smith Machine but not all of the time. Like emelina02 said, I like to use it when I want to do heavier weight but I mix it up with free weight squats and
lunges.
My boyfriend absolutely hates the Smith Machine- he thinks it's for girls & that free weights are much better. But I personally like the Smith Machine in moderation. If you do the Smith
machine with Pilates exercises & bands, it's great for toning your "gluteus maximus"

I use this sometimes when I'm alone, but it really does feel better to use regularly barbells with a spotter when possible.

4By free weights I mean a squat bar/rack that does not have any support like the Smith Machine- you pick up the bar & put it on your shoulders.
