You know I'm a huge fan of anything from Amy's Kitchen, but I also love products from Trader Joe's since many of them are organic and all natural.
Both companies make a Lentil Vegetable Soup. Want to see how they compare?

When it comes to sandwiches, I have been opting for whole wheat pita these days instead of whole wheat bread.
It has been an interesting change of pace and I thought maybe fewer calories as well. Rather than assuming pita was better nutritionally for me than whole wheat bread, I decided to compare them side by side.

I believe in the occasional frozen treat, but just because a banana split contains a serving of fruit doesn't mean it is good for you. At Dairy Queen, a banana split will cost you 530 calories and Baskin Robbins' version is nearly double that calorie count. Yikes.

After buying some fine-looking frozen halibut at Trader Joe's last week, I went in search of an unexpected but healthy way to prepare it. I turned to the spiral-bound basic wok cookbook I recently purchased along with my new wok. Since it imparts a lot of flavor with not a lot of oil, a wok is a great piece of equipment to have in your healthy kitchen.

Perusing the well-stocked snack bar section at Trader Joe's the other day, I was hoping to find something a little lighter than the typical energy bar. Gnu Flavor & Fiber Bars ($1.69 at TJ's, $1.99 online) seemed just right: with fewer calories than most bars, 50 percent of my daily value of fiber, and sweetened with 100 percent fruit juice, the colorfully wrapped bars seemed too good to be true.
I scooped up three of the five flavors, each of which was deliciously moist and chewy.

Chillier weather always makes me crave a warm bowl of savory soup. I don't always have time to make a big pot, so canned soups can come in handy. Minestrone is one of my favorites, and I wanted to see how all the different brands of canned soup compare.

I used to only shop at health food stores since my mainstream grocery store was full of conventional produce, white bread, and processed food laced with corn syrup. Now I can go to any grocery store because so many of them offer organic fruits and veggies, whole grain foods, local dairy products, and organic meats. If you're wondering which US grocery stores rank top on the list for being the healthiest, check out this list compiled by Health magazine:

After reading all your wonderful snack suggestions my afternoon snack has transformed into an inspired treat. There were so many great ideas, and I love reading that you all eat your fruits and veggies throughout the day.
Aside from the various energy bars and seasonal fruit that we all eat and love, here are some great snack ideas:
- Edamame
- Pepitas (pumpkin seeds)
- Whole grain wheat thins with the Laughing Cow light garlic and herb cheese
- Radishes or cucumbers with balsamic vinegar
- 2 Wasa Crackers with 2 tablespoons of Trader Joe's chipotle hummus spread on and topped with sliced grape tomatoes
- 100 calorie mini bag of popcorn
- Non-fat or low fat yogurt (Greek yogurt is higher in protein) and fruit or cereal or both

Eating a lot of fiber daily makes for a healthy diet. In fact, eating fiber can help prevent both breast cancer and ovarian cancer, as well as reduce chronic inflammation that can lead to heart disease and strokes. To reap the preventative benefits of fiber, you must eat 30 grams of it daily.

Breakfast is my favorite meal of the day, no lie. And it is the most important meal of the day too. It jump starts your metabolism and eating breakfast regularly is one habit of healthy people (there are 6 others, but this one is easy).
