Sure, practicing yoga is all about health and wellness, but Smart Money knows that it is also booming business. There are some aspects of yoga class that may not be in keeping with the healthy lifestyle you seek — just don't expect your yoga instructor to let you in on them. Here are a few pointers for staying healthy while practicing yoga, and remember that even when taking a fitness class led by an instructor, it's best to think for yourself to figure out what feels right and what practices work best for you.

When I take a yoga class, especially in the evening, I guess I'm pretty tired by then after waking up early and working all day. So a little yawning here and there is pretty common for me, and I'm sure it is for you too, but what about falling asleep? The final resting pose at the end of class called Savasana (Corpse pose) can last two minutes or 15 minutes or more.

Kate Winslet, one of my faves, was nominated for another Oscar. This is her 5th nomination - WOW.
What a wonderful retort to her early acting teachers that told her she would be relegated to playing "fat girls."

When I first started practicing yoga, my teachers made it clear that it wasn't a competition. So what if Peggy Pretzel over there could do Handstand Scorpion in her very first class? It's not your ability to do the poses that's important, but rather your intentions and emotions while on the mat.

I truly believe that everyone can benefit from stretching and strengthening their muscles through yoga. I must admit it saddened me to read a recent article stating that in 2006, nearly 4,500 people ended up in the ER after suffering from injuries during a yoga class. It wasn't just beginners, but also yogis who've been practicing consistently for years.

Dear Fit,
I've been taking a yoga class for about a year with this amazing instructor. We're always trying new poses and I'm soaked with sweat by the end from moving around so much. Plus the next day, I'm really sore so I know I'm working hard.

I gaze out past the middle finger of my left hand into the Hollywood Hills as my right quad quivers holding Warrior 2. This is when Bob Harper, trainer from The Biggest Loser, says, "You might be feeling a bit of heat in your thigh right about now." He's teaching a yoga class to a few bloggers and ladies of the press, and we all laugh as our legs burn.

The main reason many of us practice yoga is to increase our flexibility, and the last thing you'd expect is to pull a muscle. Unfortunately yoga injuries can and do happen just as easily as they do in other types of workouts, so keep these tips in mind to prevent yourself from getting hurt.

This FitSugar reader sure could use your advice.
Dear Fit,
My husband recently started a new job and invited one of his co-workers over. I instantly hit it off with his wife because we're both teachers, both love yoga, and are vegetarian.
