I Just Did It: Nike Women's Media Summit

Did you know that 18 months of research goes into each pair of athletic shoes with a swoosh? I had no idea about the science behind sneakers until I visited Nike Corporate HQ in Beaverton, OR, just outside of Portland. Nike hosted a Women's Media Summit event to introduce its new cutting-edge (and when I say cutting, I literally mean "cutting" like what one does on the basketball court to quickly change directions) shoe, the Sister One.

This event, where Nike treated a bunch of fitness and design writers to a two-day seminar (workouts included), will be the closest I get to feeling like a Nike-sponsored athlete. I did get meet of few inspirational Nike-sponsored female athletes that I have seen tear it up on the field and court. The six athletes we met were all beautiful; they radiated health and fitness as they were interviewed. Learn from my mistake and know that you never ask a woman in soccer about the health of her knees. Olympian soccer forward Carli Lloyd, who scored the gold-winning goal at Bejing, and Olympic goalie Hope Solo schooled me on that gaffe. I guess it is superstition.

I also learned that hoops player and two-time gold medalist Sue Bird doesn't want to play ball in a "whack looking shoe." If this point guard doesn't like the look of her kicks, she has trouble playing ball. Kinda like a sporty spin on "your are what you eat," but more "you play what you wear."

Nike takes every stitch on its sneakers seriously and they research, research, research its products. From the opinions of athletes, which it inclusively defines as anyone with a body (yay me, yay you!) to the infrared stress reading of the sole, Nike shoes are designed to perform. It was cool to see the research equipment used regularly at the Nike Sports Research Lab in progress and to see Carli and Hope demonstrate the different high-tech devices that translate movement and muscle power into computer programs for analysis.

Eva Longoria and Eduardo Cruz Take Their Love on the Go

Things appear to be going smoothly for on-again couple Eva Longoria and Eduardo Cruz, who were spotted catching a train together in Spain earlier today. The pair were all smiles and laughing while rolling their luggage through the depot. They're fresh off a stop in Cannes, where Eva was on hand to check out this year's film festival and chat with press as one of L'Oréal's brand ambassadors.

Eva and Eduardo are among the jet-setting celebrities who love to travel during the Summer. The pair visited his friends and family in Spain last year and even hung out with his sister Penelope, brother-in-law Javier Bardem, and nephew Leo. The end of Desperate Housewives gives Eva a break in her schedule, but she'll be back in the States soon enough to continue raising awareness for the upcoming presidential election.

Last night was a busy one for many celebrities at Cannes. Milla Jovovich was decked out to make the rounds, starting at the Chopard and L'Oréal bash at the Hotel Martinez. She mingled at L'Oréal with fellow brand ambassadors Luisana Lopilato and model Natasha Poly. We caught a moment with Milla at the soiree, and she spoke about what her favorite part of the festival has been. Milla said, "The last two years I brought my daughter, so it's all about getting my work done and getting back to bed to sleep with my little girl. She was all day at the beach - loves it, loves it. She met a little friend here. They're best friends now - in the whole world - after one day together." Milla and her husband Paul W. S. Anderson are the proud parents of 4-year-old Ever.

The next stop on the party agenda was de Grisogono's Glam Extravaganza at the Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc in nearby Antibes. There, Milla caught up with celeb pals like Heidi Klum, Alec Baldwin and his fiancée Hilaria Thomas, Adrien Brody, and the Hilton sisters. Both Nicky and Paris are making the rounds this week. Nicky, though, has her new boyfriend in town, too - we spotted her out on a dinner date with new guy James Rothschild, an English banking heir. "Lazy Sunday" was one of the skits that made Saturday Night Live's digital shorts wildly popular, so I'm kind of surprised it's taken this long for The Lonely Island to put out a sequel. No matter, though, because Andy Samberg and Chris Parnell teamed up yet again for this weekend's episode, with the aptly titled "Lazy Sunday 2." This time around, the guys are off to see Sister Act instead of The Chronicles of Narnia with some hilarious lyrics about the joys of late brunching and beyond.

"I Don't Want to Have an Arranged Marriage"

I'm a 23-year-old girl from a Sikh family where all girls in the house are traditionally married off through arranged marriage. I have been told to go and see a boy tomorrow, as my father's friend has insisted we go. I begged and pleaded to my mom that I do not want to go, as I don't believe in arranged marriages and I don't want my life as my sisters', but she didn't want to hear me and refused me to tell the boy no, as the family's "image" will get spoiled. I'm scared. I don't want to get married to some unknown man. I agreed we are just going to see the boy, but I don't want them to say yes. I'm still studying. I don't want this, and my sisters are too far to even help me. I'm so scared and I have no one to listen to me. I have no hope . . . I don't want this . . . please help.

For years, many people - my husband, mom, sister and even my son - told me to stop wasting so much food.

Throwing away half a piece of chicken here or a handful of grapes there never seemed like such a big deal to me. If I was full or no longer in the mood for that particular food, then I had no problem tossing it.

That is, until I experienced a bad case of sticker shock during a recent trip to the supermarket. The cost of bread, eggs, fish - basically everything I was purchasing - had increased. And, according to the USDA, we can expect prices to rise even higher this year.

As I forked over my money and left with only a handful of bags, I realized just how important it is for me to pay more attention to what I spend on food . . . and to confront how much of it I shove down the garbage disposal.

Unfortunately, I'm not the only one with wasteful ways. In 2010, 33 million tons of food was thrown away, according to the US Environmental Protection Agency. Obviously, wasted food means wasted money, but figuring out how to make your grocery budget go further can be a challenge.

To keep more food in your fridge (and more money in your pocket), try these expert tips.

1. Ward Against Freezer Burn

Those large bags or packages of frozen veggies or meat come in handy when you have a large family, but "each time you open a bag of frozen food, air gets in and will cause freezer burn within two to three weeks," says consumer saving expert Andrea Woroch. Freezer burn will dry out the meat and make it less tasty. Woroch suggests going small.

Tom Cruise chatted with Playboy about his new movie Rock of Ages, but the conversation between the actor and interviewer Michael Fleming got quite personal. No stranger to promoting movies, Tom is happy to discuss his career and ambitions, but rarely talks about his childhood. However, in Playboy, Tom gave a great deal of insight about growing up with his mom and sisters, but not his dad. Tom also spoke about the tough career time he went through in 2005 after PR-unwise interviews on the Today show and Oprah. Tom additionally had nothing but kind words to say about his wife Katie Holmes and their family. Here are highlights:

On loving Katie: "She is an extraordinary person, and if you spent five minutes with her, you'd see it. Everything she does, she does with this beautiful creativity. When she becomes interested in something, she doesn't talk about it, she does it. One week I said to her, 'You've been up in the middle of the night. Is everything okay?' She smiled and then threw this thing on my desk and said, 'I wrote this script.' She wanted to try it, and she did. She wanted to try designing clothes, and now her line is wonderful and, to me, an example of how she just creates beautiful things in her life. She has a voice and warmth as an artist, as a mother. She's funny and charming, and when she walks into the room, I just feel better. I’m a romantic. I like doing things like creating romantic dinners, and she enjoys that. I don't know what to say - I'm just happy, and I have been since the moment I met her. What we have is very special."
On growing up without his dad around: "It wasn't a big conflict when I was growing up; that's just the way it was. I don't look back and feel bad. I know some people do, but it's not a burden I carry through life. It's more like, OK, this happened. That's how he behaved, that's how he did things. He tried, but it just was who he was. Traveling has given me a broader understanding of people, and I've always been interested in the similarities we have and why people make certain choices in life. I got an introduction to that as a young child, but it never felt like a weight I carried on my shoulders."
On how he looks so young: "I honestly have no idea. [laughs] I work. I'm always with family. I train, go without sleep. I just go hard."
