    FoodFlex from Safeway
Mar 6 2008 - 8:45am Recently I learned about a new program offered to Safeway Club Card members called FoodFlex. (For those of you unfamiliar with Safeway, it is a major grocery store.) Basically FoodFlex is a program that you enroll in (free) and you're able to see all your previous purchases that you've swiped your club card for. The program then analyzes all your purchases for nutrition based on USDA dietary guidelines.

I keep wanting to try this, but my new club card isn't registered with corporate yet and so it won't let me sign up. In fact, I had been meaning to call them about this. Maybe I will now. Smiling

I would LOVE something like this! We don't have Safeway here, and to be honest I love our grocery store, but something that tracked our purchases for us would be great. We're trying to figure out little ways we can cut back on groceries, and this would be SO MUCH EASIER than keeping all our receipts to figure it up ourselves.

Safeway = Vons, Dominicks, Randalls, Tom Thumb, Genuardi's, Pavilions, & Carrs. I don't know if any of those places have the same program but they might if they are part of the same parent company.

This seems like a great tool. I should probably check to see if Vons does it, but, honestly, I can barely get to the store with a list- let alone have something else to check!

No way! Thats awesome, especially since it's free. It's like a mini nutritionist. If only I had a Safeway near me.

I NEVER register for those free "members savings cards" at grocery stores.

    Why?

Well, because these businesses usually SELL YOUR INFORMATION TO INSURANCE COMPANIES.

    Why?

TO ADJUST YOUR HEALTH INSURANCE RATES BASED ON WHAT YOU EAT.

And, if you eat healthy, great. No worries. But if all you buy at the Safeway is alcohol and chips for your parties, then that's what they'll use against you.

A GREAT way to get around that, of course, is by using a fake name when you register. Don't use your real name or real information.

Vons has this too. I just received an e-mail from them yesterday "introducing" the program. Haven't had a chance to check it out yet but it seems very cool.

This would be good for people just learning about food nutrition. It would teach them awareness that many people probably don't have. Personally, I can visualize the same thing just by looking at my cart, but then I almost always ONLY by healthful foods.

Interesting I didn't know that. Mine would be weird because I only buy cottage cheese and cleaning supplies from Safeway. Everything else comes from Whole Foods or CostCo.
