There are so many reasons to exercise, from deeper sleep to boosting your immune system, but I have a few more work-related reasons to add the list. Exercising before or during your workday will improve your productivity. Adding workouts to your workweek doesn't just help your boss; exercising on a workday helps with stress management and can make you happier.

In order to sustain your energy for long workouts, you need to refuel with some kind of sporty energy product. Sport nutrition products are manufactured in so many forms these days — sport drinks, powders, energy bars, goos, and chews — so how do you know which one is right for you? Hopefully I can ease your confusion starting with sport drinks, powders, and tablets.

Putting in the miles on the treadmill, skipping dessert, passing over potato chips — none of these are easy tasks, but they are surefire ways to shape up and lose weight. It's easy to crave the magic pill that helps us shed pounds while watching TV, but there really is no such thing. Our collective desire for easy fitness is strong and many manufacturers prey on it.

When you need energy for long workouts, there are many choices. Sport drinks, powders, and tablets offer fuel with hydration, but many just provide electrolytes to prevent dehydration. If you're working out for over an hour, you need to provide your muscles with some fuel, aka glycogen, and that's where gels and chew come into the mix.

Powerhouse Hit the Deck ($20) is a new workout system that you can do "anywhere, anytime, with no fitness equipment needed." It's made up of 35 color-coded cards and an interval timer. Each card has a strength/cardio exercise on it, and its color denotes the exercise's level of difficulty.

It's uncertain how risky bisphenol A (BPA) is to humans, but I figure better safe than sorry. I threw out my potentially risky water bottles and containers but now a new study from Consumer Reports says there's BPA in my canned goods, too. Metal cans are often lined with plastic that contains BPA to protect the food.

If you're a fan of longer workouts, or are in training for a big race, you can't exercise without refueling your energy. Sport drinks offer energy plus hydration, and gels and chews offer bite-sized energy in convenient packages. There are also energy bars.

Ever since the BPA/Nalgene scare of 2008 — in which we learned that bisphenol A could cause all sorts of health problems — manufacturers have been churning out BPA-free plastic water bottles and baby products. Now, BPA-free food storage is also becoming easier to find.
Since we know that bringing your lunch to work is a healthy habit, make it even healthier by packing food in BPA-free plastic containers.
