Must-Have Accessories For Outdoor Workouts

For Spring, we've already outfitted you in bright athletic shoes, colorful running shorts, and a cute hoodie, but we're not done yet! There are still a few go-to items that must be obtained before you head outside for your workouts. A bit more on the practical side, these accessories will keep you protected, hydrated, and warm (as needed!).

Stay protected from the sun's glare with a cool pair of polarized shades, some sunscreen, and a running cap. We love Oakley's Beckon sunglasses ($160) because they are as fashionable as they are functional! Keep the face protected with lululemon's wicking cap ($32), which has a nifty zip pocket on the side, and don't forget to slather on some Neutrogena Sport Face suncreen ($12). Regardless of the season, staying hydrated is key; we love the Water Geeks Lab bottle ($24) because of its built-in filter that gets rid of impurities. Unpredictable Spring weather means layering, but you can skip the jacket with these Sugoi Lucky Arm Warmers ($40). Stretch them up to stay warm while riding, running, or hiking, or push them down to feel the sun on your guns.

Kerri Walsh's Workout Essentials

The following post was written by Olympic athlete and mom Kerri Walsh, two-time gold medalist in pairs beach volleyball.

When I am not feeling cute, I wear leggings to work out. I really love cropped leggings and a tank. Oh, and you cannot forget a good sports bra! It is important that the clothing is made with a dry fit material to help with sweat. My iPod is my favorite work out accessory. I recently started using the NXE iPod moisture-wicking sports sleeve to hold my iPod when I work out and it works great! It is super comfortable. When I work out outside, which is more often then not, I make sure I have on my Oakley Commit sunglasses, which are the ones I wear when I compete. On my workout wish list: the Chanel J12 Marine watch to help me keep time when doing drills.

Oakley MP3 Thump Sunglasses: Cool or Not?

Even though I'm OK working out without music, I prefer not to. Fun Summer jams get me motivated, and music helps me relax too. But sometimes dealing with an iPod can be annoying. Wires get in the way, and iPod cases can get really smelly and gross. But Oakley may have a solution. The Oakley Split THUMP sunglasses ($175) come with a built-in MP3 player that doesn't require any wires, and gives you seven hours of play. They come equipped with removable ear buds that attach to the glasses themselves, and the player can be controlled with buttons on the side of the frame.

The glasses are made to be sweat-resistant, and the built-in MP3 player can download music straight from your computer, whether you're a Mac or a PC. While the idea seems pretty cool, I feel like an iPod might be easier to control while exercising. What do you think of these glasses?

Do You Wear Sport-Specific Shades For Your Workouts?

Protecting your eyes during an outdoor workout may not be a top priority for you, but that doesn't mean it's not a good idea. The same UV rays that damage your skin can damage your peepers. I met with a few women from Oakley, the sporty sunglasses giant. Along with many other sports gear companies, Oakley has designed women-specific products for running and biking, with input from its athletes, like Olympic hurdler Lolo Jones. Our skulls, among other things, are shaped differently than men's - higher cheekbones, for one.

Oakley found, though, that most women (not all, mind you) like to wear more fashionable shades when working out. They want a pair of sunnies they can wear on a run and out to brunch. While my oversize cat-eye sunglasses don't cut it on the bike, I forgo shades when running. What about you?

Paul Smith Recreates Sunnies For Oakley

There's nothing like a pair of cool sunnies, well maybe a pair of hot heels, but sunnies come in a close second. To further feed my addiction, Paul Smith has teamed up with Oakley to create a cool remix of its iconic '86 Oakley Frogskins - the quirky name refers to the rubbery-like finish. I'm pretty smitten with the girly pink hues and the tinted shades. Apparently, these sunnies were a big hit with surfers and skaters back in the day and I'm sure peeps will go ga-ga over them all over again. It certainly caught my attention. If you want a pair, act fast - only 500 pairs are available at Paul Smith shops and its e-commerce site.

Get Your Butt in Gear: Gretchen Bleiler For Oakley

January is just around the corner, and that means it's time to play in the snow. Are you mountain ready? If you're in need of fresh gear, check out the new collection that snowboarding superstar Gretchen Bleiler designed for Oakley - and you thought they only made sunglasses.

Known for her crazy trick the inverted crippler, Bleiler designed a collection that mixes wild and tame. A jacket she calls The Mane features a faux fur trimmed hood and comes in three colors, one a bright yellow that suggests a lion abstracted. The collection includes basic jackets and pants, all with small details that give them style and flair. The jackets and pants are cut to flatter the female form, and many items are made with recycled polyester. At $250 to $300, the price range might be as steep as the mountains you ride, but style wedded with comfort and warmth is always priceless.
