Gear Review: New Balance 1063 Running Shoes

Whether you're a fan of New Balance sneakers or not, I think you're going to want to know about the latest update to their 1063 running shoe. The New Balance 1063 ($125) is considered a high mileage, technical running shoe. Although lightweight (9.5 oz. per shoe), this shoe offers the great cushioning and remains flexible. It's a neutral running shoe, designed for runners who have "normal arches."

Check out those laces. They're called SureLaces, and the wavy design ensures that your laces won't loosen while you run, so they offer added support to keep your sneaker snug around your foot. I also love the mesh material that covers the entire sneaker, offering breathability. Even on my longer runs, my feet never overheated, and the shock absorption protected my feet and knees. The shoe comes in orange or blue, and I know this 1063 is on the pricier side, but that's because it's top of its class when it comes to neutral sneakers. If you're serious about running, a more expensive sneaker really does feel different especially on those longer runs.

Get in Gear: New Balance Waterproof Sneakers

Now that the weather is warming up, I bet a lot of you are getting psyched to walk and run outside. The problem is most of the country is dealing with melting snow, so it's still pretty wet outside. I think these are super cute, but what tops their good looks is they are made from Gore-Tex so they're completely waterproof. Your feet will stay dry and if you happen to get them covered in mud, they'll clean up easily. Plus, Gore-Tex breathes. And check out the soles. They're perfect for running around on uneven terrain. Plus the midsole is made out of shock absorbing material, so if you're into trail running, these will protect your feet from sharp rocks and sticks. In case you were wondering, the New Balance 1110 only come in the blue and gray color that's shown.

I'm in a love/hate relationship with running. Often I hate doing it because it's physically hard, and difficult to fit into my busy life. Although I also love it because it makes me strong and calms me down.

I think a lot of people must hate running more than they love it, and New Balance is trying flip people's attitudes the other way. Check out their new commercial and tell me, how are you in a love/hate relationship with running?

I'm sure many of you have made "exercise more" one of your New Year's Resolutions. It's great to make that decision, but it's overwhelming to think of how you can make that happen. Well New Balance and our pals over at Exercise TV have created a new online program called FITS. It was developed to motivate and inspire people to meet their fitness goals. All you do is register and you have:

Access to Exercise TV videos for tips and workout routines to help you get a jump-start on your fitness plan.

Your own online tracking journal, where you can click on a day and write down your fitness activities. You can also set goals with it. When you reach your goals, you get a little gold star on your calendar (sounds silly, but it's great for motivation).

FITS is totally free and it can give you some great ideas about how to accomplish your fitness goals. Plus the videos are easy to use and great motivation to start exercising right away.
