Bikini-Clad Country Stars Discuss Diet and Self-Esteem

Not one, not two, but three country music stars are showing off their bikini bodies on the cover of the July issue of Shape magazine. LeAnn Rimes, Martina McBride, and Julianne Hough look smokin' in their metallic suits. The ladies admit it takes work to look so trim and tell Shape that, as role models, it's important for their fans (and Martina's daughters) to know they take a healthy approach.

The singers chat about how frustrating it can be to watch their husbands scarf down anything they want to eat and confide that being in the spotlight isn't always peachy. All three women take responsibility for promoting a healthy way of life, especially eating a well-balanced diet, and emphasize that beauty isn't just a physical attribute. Julianne won me over with this statement:

There are a lot of teenagers out there who look at me and say, "Well, she's 21, I want to look like her." But I want everyone to know - especially young girls - I eat. I am not starving myself. I'm concerned about young women and their self-esteem being based on what they see on TV or in magazines. It's not about being beautiful on the outside, it's about loving yourself and who you are.

LeAnn Rimes Has Psoriasis - What Is It?

LeAnn Rimes has no problem belting out songs in public, but she's been hiding a secret. At age two, LeAnn was diagnosed with the chronic autoimmune disease known as psoriasis. The condition is characterized by reddish, thick, and flaky skin with silver-white patches. This common condition can appear suddenly or slowly and flares up repeatedly over time. It's not contagious but can be hereditary.

Poor LeAnn was tormented by her peers. She recently told Health, "Kids didn't want to hang out with me or touch me. I remember being called 'Scaly Girl,' and never ever wanting to go out in a bathing suit."

LeAnn hasn't had a flare up in five years since she's made some changes. She said, "I found great medication and a great doctor and began really living a healthy lifestyle." She even felt confident enough to show off her skin in a bikini on the March of Fitness magazine. She said, "To feel vibrant, to feel like a woman, to want to show off that I have clear skin, it's the happiest day of my life." LeAnn Covers Fitness, and Health

I always love hearing about how couples motivate each other to get healthy, but now more than ever since it's Valentine's Day. LeAnn Rhimes recently told Fitness magazine that her husband was the driving force behind finally being able to get healthy.

Here are highlights:

"I wasn't taking care of my health. I was getting out of breath in the middle of the show . . . and sometimes I was getting really sick." The solution came with the emotional stability provided by her husband Dean - who also provided her something more: a workout partner. "[Dean and I] both push each other to be better."

I usually eat a bowl of oatmeal with agave nectar, dried cherries, and walnuts in the morning. I have a protein shake after the gym, then grilled chicken, a whole-wheat pita, and humus for lunch.

Come afternoon there's another snack, then, for dinner, I might have trout with spinach sautéed in garlic and olive oil and a piece of dark chocolate for dessert.
