We all know Kate loves to work out - especially doing a lot of lunges. Kate knows they are a great way to sculpt your legs but do you? Most people shy away from them because lunges can become tedious and, like everything else, your muscles can get used to the motions if you don't add some variation to your lunge every once in a while.

Here is a fun way to update the lunge:

Lunging in different directions enables you to use new (and more) muscles in your legs. So rather than the typical forward and reverse lunges, imagine you are standing in the middle of a star and lunge forward (and reverse for all the points behind you) to all the points of the star to complete one set. Do 3-4 sets.

Favorite Celebrity Trainer: Jason Walsh

The year 2007 is officially over, but I need to tell you who won the FitSugar poll for fave celebrity trainer. Since Jessica Biel was voted favorite fit celebrity, it should come as no surprise that her trainer, Jason Walsh, was voted best celebrity trainer.

Jessica has gotten a lot of press for her fit bod and healthy lifestyle, but Walsh's impressive client list also includes Ben Affleck, Jennifer Garner, and Kate Beckinsale. He doesn't just work with Hollywood types: Jason also trains professional athletes, including football and baseball players, and he also trains women from the National Soccer League. All this work happens at Legacy, a private gym in West Los Angeles.

Just a few more stats on Jason:

He graduated from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a degree in Exercise and Sports Science.
He is sponsored by one of my favorite food companies, Kashi.
He is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) and Certified Personal Trainer through the National Strength and Conditioning Association, and those are some impressive credentials.

Tips From Celebrity Trainers

One way that celebrities get to look the way they do is with personal trainers who have earned a bit of a celebrity title themselves. The back of their heads (i.e. Harley Pasternak training Sophia Bush pictured below) are always seen on PopSugar, so it's no wonder they are making a name for themselves based on the big names they work with.

CNN recently spoke with five celebrity trainers and they gave their own insights along with tips for us non-celebrity folk. So here are highlights I thought you would enjoy:

Valerie Waters
Worked With: Kate Beckinsale and Cindy Crawford
Tip: "Don't be afraid of weights. They're the quickest way to change your body"

Gunnar Peterson
Worked With: Jennifer Lopez, Angelina Jolie and Matthew McConaughey
Tip: "Get on a regular routine. Exercise should be a cornerstone of your life, like brushing your teeth. It's not even an option to blow it off."

Tip: Take care of the arches in your feet. "When your arches collapse, your knees rotate inward, and your hips rotate outward giving you a saddlebag appearance. It then pulls your sternum down, it pulls your neck forward, and everything collapses." She suggests orthotics and mio-fascial release to combat chronic pain and posture problems.

Tip: Don't wait too long to integrate a healthy diet and consistent exercise into your days. "I've seen a lot of people come to me when it's a little bit too late," he said, "I've had [clients] pass away due to illnesses, cancer, heart disease, whatever it may be. The time is now. If you don't put your health first you're never really going to truly be happy."

Bob Greene
Worked With: Oprah
Tip: "First thing is, know what you want," Greene said. He said a lot of people want to work out because it's "in" or they know they should be doing it, but don't have a specific goal. "Know the reason you are making these changes in your habits, what is it you really want to achieve." He also said most people need to do both weight training and cardio.

Sore on Being Sore

Now that you've started this new health kick, your muscles may be sore. Maybe you tried to lunge like Kate Beckinsale or you did too many at your desk booty workouts and now you can hardly walk.

While it is not entirely clear what exactly causes muscles soreness-- what is clear is that when you're sore, you're sore and it's no fun.

For mild muscles soreness the Mayo Clinic recommends these techniques:

Ice the sore area
Use an over-the-counter anti-inflammatory drug, such as ibuprofen or naproxen

Fit's Tip: A topical pain relieving gel such as BioFreeze can also help ease the pain. After my first snowboarding experience turned out to be a very painful one, I was not loving the idea of putting ice on my sore muscles (being that the snow and ice was how they got that way in the first place) so I turned to BioFreeze and have loved it dearly ever since.
