Reese's Peanut Butter Cups and Snickers were my favorites when it came to Halloween as a kid. After a night of trick-or-treating, I loved to sprawl my goods on the kitchen table and count how many I got of each. Now I would never eat as much candy as I could fit in a pillowcase, since many of them are high in calories and contain trans fat, but I still like to enjoy a couple pieces this time of year.

I was vegan for a short time in college, and was shocked when I had my cholesterol tested and found it was high. I wasn't even eating cholesterol! The thing is, your liver makes cholesterol and it's actually essential for your body to function normally.

Decadent chocolate stimulates your taste buds, and the caffeine and theobromine in this treat stimulate your heart rate in a way that could prevent you from falling asleep. There's nothing wrong with indulging in a piece of chocolate after dinner, but try to take your last bite well before bedtime.
Not all types of chocolate are equal in terms of the amounts of caffeine they contain.

The Corn Refiners Association has been hard at work trying to change our perceptions about high fructose corn syrup (HFCS), but they may have a new public relations battle on their hands. Two new US reports found mercury in both commercial samples of HFCS and products that listed high fructose corn syrup as the first or second ingredient.
Almost half the commercial samples of the corn sweetener tested positive for mercury, and almost a third of the tested food and beverage products contained detectable levels of the heavy metal as well.

What is it about Halloween candy that makes it so enticing? All those miniature, bite-size, chocolatey morsels in brightly colored packages are so hard to resist. To prevent myself from eating half a bag of treats, I like to wait to buy my candy until the day before Halloween, and I also give out candy I hate.

Tension headaches are very common, affecting as many as 40% of teenagers and adults. Pain is caused by tightness (contraction) of your neck and scalp muscles. With a tension headache, the pain often starts at the back of your head and moves forward, so that it eventually includes your neck, scalp, and head.

It's no secret that I love dark chocolate. Not only is it super tasty and satisfying, it's actually a sweet treat that is good for you, too. Dark chocolate has been found to sooth a cough, increase blood flow, and lower your blood pressure.

When I suggested that chocolate-flavored calcium supplements make a good substitute for dessert, many of you weren't so into the high-fructose corn syrup that comes with most calcium chews. But I'm still concerned about my daily calcium intake, and I still like a sweet bite after meals, so I was excited to discover Adora Calcium Supplements ($6 for a 30-piece bag).
These dark-chocolate supplements are free of corn syrup, as well as gluten, artificial sweeteners, and other weird stuff.

The calorie count on snackables keeps going down. I guess 100 calories was 10 too many, since I keep seeing snack-pack packaging proclaiming a 90-calorie content. One such food is the Special K Orange-flavored Bliss Bar I was handed at the train station by a very chipper young woman.
