Gwyneth Paltrow: Thanks to Tracy Anderson, My "Sagging Ass" Is in Shape
Feb 18 2010 - 12:00pm Madonna may have given trainer Tracy Anderson the boot, but that hasn't stopped pal Gwynnie Paltrow from professing her adoration for all things Tracy. The actress pens a love note to the trainer in her latest GOOP newsletter that also includes a video workout and mini-interviews from celebs like Courteney Cox, Donna Karan, and Kristin Davis. "Tracy shares with us a little arm series that I did everyday preparing for Iron Man and that I take on the road.

I've done the arm workout like this on her mat workout, and it is amazing. My arms got so fatigued and it really worked the muscles great. holding your arms out and moving them like that is a challenge after a few minutes.

She is totally contributing to the disgusting female ideal of pre-pubescent boy. Don't lift more than 3 lbs lest you bulk up? Give me a break. We should shun this nonsense that encourages women to whittle their bodies down to size 0. We should be encouraging strength and acceptance of different body types. You can't change your body type, but you can change its composition.

Wow so many people sound so bitter. Who cares if she helps people reach a smaller size. Thats the point of working out. If you want to gain size and get fat then eat come drive through and park yourself on your couch every night.

Or if you want to look and feel better, try a goofy looking arm work out that will sculpt you. If it works it works.

Different things work for different people and if Tracy is helping boost confidence in women by helping them lose weight and drop sizes then more power to her.

LittleBehr, the point of working out should be to be to improve your health not to be smaller and tiny, which she clearly promotes. Small and tiny does not equate better health.
The reason she is so polarizing is due to a variety of reasons, but most of which is her blatantly incorrect knowledge of health and fitness. She has famously stated that women should not lift over 3 pounds of weight or they will get big bulky unattractive muscles and that you shouldn't run for the same reason. That is simply not true and to be a health and fitness guru and not know that is unacceptable to me and a lot of other people.

Also as jkat stated, she has a historu of defrauding people, which again is not acceptable.

Promoting health and fitness is one thing but to imply that the only way to achieve that is to be small and ity bity is not helpful for the health or the self esteem of women.

Yeah...so she helps people get smaller. Great if that's what they are looking for (I wouldn't mind shrinking my arms a little). But why support a criminal deadbeat to do it? There are plenty of other ways...like yoga and *real* pilates. This woman is just a con artist.

I'm underwhelmed by Tracy, too. I'm glad that Gwyneth is happy with her, and the results Tracy has bought her. AND I think there are better workouts out there.

Don't get me started on that arm workout in the video. ANY studio dance class would give a better arm workout, PLUS teach the art of movement, and train an ear to coordinate with music. JMHO.

I was personally turned off by her overly expensive gym where on the wealthiest of the wealthy could get in. What are rich people the only ones that deserve health and wellness?
On topic, she looks like a fool doing this. Turn on the radio and flail your arms around and you'll get the same results.

    LOL becky!

I find some appeal in her program because I have a similar body type - I'm 4'11 with no curves to speak of. So the only way for me to look fit is to look "teeny." Any kind of bulk on me looks huge, since there's not very much of me. That's why I end up stopping all the workouts I have tried - in the end I don't like the way my body starts to look. I would be willing to try her arm workouts, for example, but I would not do a leg or butt workout by her, since in this video it looks like she has zero ass. I want toned arms and a smaller waist (my problem area), but I also want a butt and hips. Hmm since she claims running makes a bigger ass, maybe I could do her method and run anyway? Eye-wink

I also really don't like Gwnenth Paltrow, she's got serious body image issues and imparts them to her followers, not to mention her detoxes are dangerous. She is a unhealthy role model and should not be on the "fitsugar" site since the only thing "fit" about her is her fitness for a mental unit.

Sheesh. I've been weightraining since 1992, and I can tell you I lift much more than 3 lbs. Why? Because I'm an amazon to begin with, enjoy having a larger frame, solid muscles, strength and I love the empowerment which comes from physical activity. According to this putz - I'm doing it all wrong. I'm also extremely feminine looking, as I don't deplete myself to such a teeny, weeny state.

Geez, I guarantee all of the haters here have never tried her workout. How can you judge? There are a lot of different ways to get fit, doing exercises that Tracy gives you is in no way weirder than doing Pilates which was invented by a man that wanted you to look 'long and lean'. I hated lifting weights and would avoid it like the plague and stuck to cardio. Doing her workouts are fun and are helping me reduce my body fat percentage by building muscle.

I don't know or care to know a thing about the personal lives of any other trainer out there- don't see what that has to do with her abilities as a trainer. And as for Gwenyth- she looks amazing. Nope- she's not very curvy or prob ever had "batwings"- what a silly thing to call fat- everyone needs a little. It's great that she's found someone who helps her stay in shape, and feeling so awesome and excited about working out that she keeps wanting to share it with people.

I think Gwyneth looks amazing, and if she feels like this works for her, great. But I purchased the Tracy Anderson mat DVD (before I knew anything about her) and I personally found it to be the most bizarre thing ever. It was mind-numbingly boring, and she gives little to no audio cues. I can't imagine why anyone would pay money to do the Tracy Anderson "method" when there are so many other great ways of working out.

lollofit, I don't think someone's deceptive business practices, theft of customers' funds and illegal dodging of financial obligations in a business setting is their "personal life." It is their professional reputation. I think anyone should investigate that before giving someone a significant amount of money upfront for a service.

I think her "method" lets women in Hollywood achieve exactly what they are being pressured to achieve... a size zero. But please, let's not pretend that this workout is what gets these women there. It is a combination of strict caloric reduction and exercise that makes one a size zero.

I think what's insulting here is assuming that women who want something different than the Hollywood Standard (or, the Hollywood Car Wash) is not "ideal". I think everyone plays around with their fitness regimes to find exactly where they want to be... what is important, however (and here is where Tracy misses the mark big time) is to pay more attention to how ones body feels instead of how one looks. It seems that Tracey's primary goal is to get women whittled down into clones of other skinny women, but at what cost? I truly believe it's better to have more padding, but with healthy insides than to be super "toned, long and lean" and have a imbalanced interior (so to speak. That one was harder to put into words than I had thought...).

If you haven't done Tracy's method before the video above will be really hard to follow and confusing. That's because she doesn't give you the background and technique, its just a follow along kind of video. I would recommend trying out her mat DVD, its expensive but gives you a great workout (focus in on using your own body weight, some light weights, and is similar to pilates or ballet barre work). If you aren't a dancer and don't like to dance you will not like this workout, but if you did ballet before and like to dance (like me) I prefer this to lifting weights at the gym. It also travels really well, once you have some of the sequences memorized you can do this in your hotel room with just a chair and a towel.

I would like to think that the context of Tracy's WO is not following her exactly, but doing moves with your arms that fatigue the muscles just enough to break them down a little, then move to another arm muscle group and do the same thing. It's the healing that tones, I believe. There are so many comments about "becoming a size 0". I would hope that everyone here would just want to have a healthy BMI according to their height and bone structure. I expect that if I ever reach the correct, healthy BMI for me, I will probably be about a size 5-7. because of my bone structure. Good luck, everyone in reaching your goals, whatever they may be.
