The company you keep can influence the choices you make, and that includes decisions that impact your healthy lifestyle. My friends run the spectrum when it comes to diet and exercise habits: Some of them are health nuts like me, while others haven't worked out in years and think a meal is considered healthy when the main ingredients are chorizo and cheese. How does your social circle measure up?

There are only a couple of friends that I like to work out with because I know they like to work hard. Then there are others who'll go to the gym with me and would rather chitchat about their annoying boss or insensitive boyfriend, or how their dog chewed their favorite purse. I'm not saying I don't want to talk to my friends, but there's a time and a place for everything.

The other day I was out to lunch with my girlfriend who has been blabbing to me for the past few months about how she is finally getting healthy. I've been her number one supporter so I was thrown off when she ordered a very unhealthy meal at lunch — I just couldn't help myself from saying something to her when she chugged her second refill of Coke. Unfortunately, she seemed peeved.

We all look to our friends in time of stress, but a new study shows that some friends may to creating stress in our lives.
Research, recently performed by psychologists at Brigham Young University indicates that "ambivalent" friends affect our blood pressure. Ambivalent friends, which I sometime call mean friends, are those people we are involved with, who we care about, but who are unpredictable.

Back in the day when I thought I was a hipster, I went to see live music in little clubs all the time. Although it wasn't cool to dance, I just had to move around. I rocked out.

Sometimes the best thing you can do for yourself when you are feeling stressed is to turn to someone else.
All those stresses can get bottled up and gabbing with a supportive pal about life and what's ailing you (or her) can instantly relieve stress. Talking about your problems not only helps you gain perspective, but you can usually brainstorm some ideas to try in those troublesome times.

With claims that they improve digestion, bolster immunity, and fight acne, it's no wonder that probiotic supplements are big business. Newsweek reports that sales of these supplements have more than quadrupled in the last 10 years. I will admit, I'm a fan these friendly bacteria found in yogurt and miso, but it's the quality of the supplements that's raising eyebrows.
